Working at Home
Do any of you have the pleasure of working for a company out of your house?
I'm not talking about running your own business. I am refering to you work for someone else but get to do the work from your house.
I don't get to do it very often but I find that I am much more productive and absolutely much less stress. I wish I could do it a lot more often.

Re: Working at Home
I used to work from home a couple of days a week. It was nice. You do get a lot done because there are no distractions. You also lose out on the social side of work though and that can make you a little less effective.

Re: Working at Home
That is the one thing that I miss when I am not at my work place. I have a couple of co-workers that we generally have a good time.

Re: Working at Home
My company set me up with a home office from the start. I travel when necessary but they tend to like it better when we work from home. Saves them money I guess. It does have it's ups and downs though. Conference calls are a pain, but I'd rather be able to put the phone on mute and do something else than have to sit in an actual meeting.

Re: Working at Home
We have one guy I work with that spends 3 days a week at his home working. I kind of think he was the test subject around here. Now they are letting myself more and more do this. Maybe before to long I can spend most of my time working from the house rather then at the office where I get more interuptions.

Re: Working at Home
I work from home 2 days a week and even got them to cover my ISP. It is nice because you don't have the "pointy haired boss" coming around standing at you office door (or cubicle for some folks) and talk about the "nothings." Plus, I can work in my PJ's, have friends over, and work anywhere in the house thanks to wireless technology.

Yes, and you can actually have sex at work -- when you work from home. :-)

Re: Working at Home
I work and own my internet business out of my home.
I run a computer hardware review site and absolutely love it.
Get up, scratch my ass, make coffee, have a smoke, stumble into my office in my Calvin Klein robe and sit and read email.
Man, the freedom is intoxicating, but you do get bored so I picked up a hobby by working on my Blazer.

Re: Working at Home
I'm working from home right now, as a Java coder. It's great but sometimes I'd like the day to day interaction of an office.

Re: Working at Home
i work from home now, dispatching car transport trucks, i dispach 4 a owner operator and now own and dispatch 4 a car transport truck i own, i pay a driver to drive my truck, I bought a 2000 tandem Axle Volvo Tractor and a 5 car load wally mo trailer, (my truck was 18k trailer was 24k)its me & my wife and 2 fax machines and 2 PCs in a 12 x 12 office in my house. but hey we are at home, some weeks its 6 days at 4hrs to 7hr a day, some weeks its 3 9hr days. we book the cars/loads off a website. everything is done by fax and phone it's our 5th yr. course me and my wife are stuck up each others butt 24/7 now, but it's ok. i am a journeyman electrician by trade (i hold a Nebraska Electrical Contractors License), i did all big commercial jobs. i was a job superintendent, with a new truck every 2yrs plus a lota benefits, but my job was always 55mi to 100mi from home one way, so a lot of driving time, or i was outa town 4 days a week, it just depends on the job. i still have my electrical license, there was always 10 to 20+ guys on my jobs to keep moving in the right direction everyday, plus getting the job in on time, and it was like i was the baby sitter for 20 big whining kids, plus the general contractor on my ass. and keeping the office happy. lots of stress and after 25+ yrs of construction. I'm glad to make my living at home in sweats if i want. plus i do some small 2 or 3 day jobs / side work for a select few.
this is the truck & trailer i bought/own

Re: Working at Home
I work at home as well and love it. I had an office and business phone lines that were killing my profit. With my work the only time I used it is to meet clients, now I have lunch or coffee with them. I get up, check email, do yard work etc...etc... My little home desk has become a room we did not use with all office equipment and files. The phone lines are half the cost and the office space is a rightoff. I normally have the news or tv on in the background. With the internet advancing as quickly as it is I feel this is more than a trend.
