LeRoi Moore dead at 47
I know a lot of you don't care, and think DMB sucks, but the world lost one of the great sax players it had. This guy had some lungs, and was part of my personal favorite band.
(CNN) -- LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday from complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident, the band's publicist said.

LeRoi Moore, a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday.
Moore, 47, died "unexpectedly" at a hospital, publicist Ambrosia Healy said in a statement.
Moore was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, and had been rehabilitating at his L.A. home after the June 30 accident at his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville in 1991 by Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford and Moore, an established saxophonist in the local music scene. Their first album, "Remember Two Things," was released in 1993 and featured what would become the band's trademark mixture of jazz, rock and world-music stylings.

"Jazz is probably my main influence, but at this stage I don't really consider myself a jazz musician," Moore is quoted as saying on the band's Web site. "I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas."
The band's follow-up record, "Under the Table and Dreaming," has been certified quadruple-platinum, selling over 4 million copies.
The group was scheduled to play Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and was planning to go on with the show, according to the statement. Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has been sitting in for Moore since Moore's accident.
Concertgoer Christian Tomas of Anaheim, California, said by telephone from the Staples Center that word of the death spread through the crowd before the show.
"All of us are just really sad and down about it," said Tomas, a longtime fan. "But if Dave and the band decided to go on with the show, that means they know it was the right thing to do and Leroi would have wanted it."

Re: LeRoi Moore dead at 47
He was a really great guy.
Story
Several years ago, My wife I worked part time at Irvine Meadows backstage, so we could go to shows free. I have a real job, I just did this one summer for fun.
The year I worked there the Dave Mathews Band played. I didn't really know a lot about them. My wife and I got to met the whole band while they were backstage.
One thing you should know that Irvine Meadows is not build for handicap people. It is about a half mile from where you park to your seats. In order to help they have golf carts to shuttle people in need. The carts go through the backstage area to avoid hitting people.
Why is this important today? LeRoi was hanging out near where the carts dropped the people off before they get pushed back out into the crowd. He was helping the people get their stuff and talking with everyone. Many people that don't know the band (caterers and police and others that hang out backstage) thought he was with the cart company. Until he started letting people from the carts play his flute. Now I have seen many professional musicians in my day and never have I seen one let a stranger play with his instrument. The whole band was like a bunch of old friends to everyone they met that weekend. Great people all.

Re: LeRoi Moore dead at 47
I saw this today just a little while ago, and was quite shocked. I've always been into DMB ever since their first album, never gone to a concert yet but I hope to some day---I hear they're amazing. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

Yeah, I called Josh and let him know as soon as I found out. I think he cried.

Re: LeRoi Moore dead at 47
I've seen DMB 8 times live, and it just won't be the same without LeRoi. Brunette, rep for one of my favorite songs. Say Goodbye is one of my favorites to play on the guitar at open-mic. I LOVE this song live. One of the best things is how much emotion this band puts into their music, and Say Goodbye gets a lot of it. I bet that in the next few shows, or maybe even for the rest of the tour, the emotion and the energy will be off the charts. Looks like it's time to look at tour dates.
Funny enough, I have a great story about this song involving a girl and some alcohol, but seeing as though my sister is a part of this forum, I'll leave it alone.
Kornie, you hush yo mouf.
