You Sure Can Tell When the Cities Are Hurting For Revenue
I've gone over TEN FUCKING YEARS without a moving violation.
Thirty minutes ago I just got my SECOND SPEEDING TICKET THIS WEEK!!!!
Monday, fucking cop was hiding on the main street connecting CSULB to the 405 freeway and pulled me over for doing 51mph in a 35mph. This is about 6 blocks up from my house, and the 4 lane 1/3 residential 2/3 industrial street should be a 45mph zone.
Today, fucking cop is hiding on Broadway (another busy main street) and clocks me at 46mph in a 30mph.
I 100% admit to going too fast. Hell, I'm the guy doing 80mph on the freeway. So YES I drive fast. But NO I don't do it recklessly, blindly, without regard to my surroundings, or dangerously.
Going 10 years without a ticket should attest to my "awareness" of driving. What pisses me off is that these two tickets were from cops HIDING in areas that people drive at speeds that I was driving (most of the time people are passing ME on these streets).
I've gone to a couple city council meetings in the last few months and have listened to them ask how they can combat their budget deficits with new taxes (warehousing tax, utility increases, etc.). Guess they're also pumping the public for bullshit traffic violations that a few months ago they would normally have ignored or issued a warning
FUUUUUUUCK FUUUUUUCK FUUUUUCK

can't really complaiin when you were actually doing what they pulled you over for, now if it was like a mph or two over the limit i could see your predicament, but seriously you were doing 15 over the limit on both

Guess it's a California thing. Try driving the speed limit on the 405

People speed everywhere, cops just choose to let it go.
Unfortunate you got caught twice, but you were way over. Agree with what CE said

Re: You Sure Can Tell When the Cities Are Hurting For Revenue
Here the speed isn't as much a factor as style of driving...if you're swerving or cutting in and out etc...then they tag you. If you're speeding but going with the flow and staying straight and not trying to run lights then they normally let you go.

At 15 MPH over the speed limit you're probably lucky you got away with it for ten years. I know what you mean though. We have a lot of main streets with 25 MPH limits which are a real pain in the butt to keep to. At 30 MPH you become the first car in a 2 mile long freight train with some guy on your butt with maybe 5' to spare. Even at 35 MPH when the street widens from 2 to 4 lanes you have 6 guys ready to pass you doing 45 MPH. Of course here most local speed traps use the hose set up, other than the state troopers who use radar. I beleive they have to clock you for at least a mile otherwise unless they're chasing you for some other infraction.

Re: You Sure Can Tell When the Cities Are Hurting For Revenue
I've never once, ever, got just a warning...I always get the ticket. I think I've had about 4 speeding tickets, over the years. If I had tits though, that would be completely different. Do they have a point system in California? I think, unless you're out of control, or dangerous, speeding tickets are ridiculous. I think most traffic violations are simply a incredibly greedy way of fucking you over. I have two tickets for failing to stop at stop signs also...I just sort of rolled through them, and bingo fucking cop on the other side of the bushes! If there's no one around, who does it hurt that I just sort of pull a "California Stop," and roll through very slowly?

HAve your lawyer handle it to make sure it doesn't go on your record and you won't see traffic school.

Re: You Sure Can Tell When the Cities Are Hurting For Revenue
Yeah you should never go 10 mph or more over the speed limit. It must be the area of where you live. The sheriffs where I live are cool here. One time I was speeding in a residential street going to my house and the cop let me go with a warning. The only cops I wouldnt want to get pulled over by are Whiittier and Downey cops, they are very strict. Same goes with Fontana police. I once got a ticket over there for not signaling when I made a lane change and I had to go to freaking driving school for it

The only ticket I got while in California was for running a stop sign. I made a complete stop, crossed an intersection into a dead end, made a U-turn, then made a California stop or what we call a milkman's stop going the other way. A cop was parked on the side of the road, as I saw him, I knew I was screwed. I had a California license but it had my military and PA address on it. There were no other cars in sight but a guess he was a native of California. I got stop for doing 40 MPH in a fog on a small winding road but the San Diego cop just gave me a warning because he was originally from Philly too.

Re: You Sure Can Tell When the Cities Are Hurting For Revenue
Must be 20 years since I got a speeding ticket. I agree, the city gave orders to the police to write more tickets. That's why the bastard's are hiding. Don't get another; you have 2 points on your record now and could lose your license if you speed again. I don't know the law, but you are close to being on probation. The duration varies with months and number of points. If you see a letter from the DMV soon and aren't expecting a registration renewal notice, then that's what it will be.

Seriously, how much over the speed limit can you go on a bicycle?
