I just want to tell the world.
I'm a Caterpillar technician. I got out of the Army and started going to school for diesel technology in March 2004. 6 months in th my training, I was hired as a yard bitch for a Cat dealer. I graduated in March 2006 with an AS in diesel. My company works on pay grades with me starting out at grade 4 when I graduated. 6 months after I started I got my first bump and a promotion to field service. Every 6 months I got a review and a bump to the next grade. A week after my last review, my boss quit. I've been worried for a few months now that my new boss didn't like me and I came up for review this month. I was really worried that it wouldn't turn out very well. Well, I got that review this morning and realized that I was very wrong. The company standard is 1 grade per year, making about 5 years that it should have taken to make grade 9 which is journeyman. Generally field service technicians are journeyman. So 6 months out of school I held a journeyman position. Now 2 years out of school and at least 3 years ahead of my peers, I made journeyman technician. I don't know anyone else that has made it that fast.
Yes, this was just me bragging. No other purpose than to tell the world how happy I am that I accomplished one of my major career goals.

Im about to make a move in my company as well.. Its techniqually a lateral move within the company, but the job ill be taking on is way more intense than the "over priced human post-it note" that I am currently.. I have been taking on alot of other projects as of late but submitting for a position for this other job will put me at the next level.

Im totally scared. if I screw up here, I can take down 10,000 subscribers of the intranet.. if I screw up over there... I can take down Chicago.. or Atlanta.. etc..

a wee bit more capacity. I dont want to screw up *shudder*

heh ... i recall a 3208 on a genset going into the runaway mode . my friend and i got it shut down before it grenaded (gotta love CO2 extinguishers) .
whilst it was winding up i caught something out of the corner of my eye ... it was the owner beatin' feet , all you could see was asshole and elbows headin' for the hills .
my friend caught it too . we were both still laughing when we went looking for him .

i must say that i prefer the genuine cat engines over the perkins wannabe .
them damnable o-rings used on the "quick change" cartridge element fuel filter/water trap were a real pain ... better have a couple of spares with you .

Trust me, this is what I want to do. You know the saying that the perfect job is finding someone that will pay you to have fun? I love what I do and make a lot of money doing it.



Thats funny cause whenever anyone talks about the bugs, I'm thinking about machines.
