'Bout time!

Yep, after my second divorce, I have a new girlfriend. She's great, has a wonderful smile, is funny, and makes me laugh. Alot! A memorable quote from her: "Love doesn't have to be complicated". This is important because I haven't been too succesful at picking women. Frankly, I didn't do well at all with my selection of ladies. The women I chose made everything COMPLICATED. But, it was my choice. None of these psycho women made me do anything.

This might be crazy, but I know this: I had lots of opportunities to spend my life with some very great women; however, I chose to leave them by the road and attempt to stick it out with women that didn't have a full bag of cookies. Was I looking for a challenge? Maybe I was thinking any problem could be overcome if two people were willing to work on it??

How come it took two marriages, one son (awesome gift from God), and lots of thought to figure this out?? BTW, I've got to give some thanks to Juan, kulots, and CWB for the occasional point in the right direction and/or thoughts to get me on the right track!

Since this is new ground for me, what do ya'll have to offer to help me?

Re: 'Bout time!

jShizz and maggiesdragons: quick, but definitely the thing! Thanks for the reminders!

juan: charm can't help a relationship if the one you're with has a diagnosed mental disorder!

That's the portion I haven't been able to understand. When faced with choosing between a mentally stable or unstable woman, I picked the unstable. WTF! Really, what kind of result was I expecting??

I took about 16 months off from dating; I used the time to think about this, and other, things. Sometimes I laughed at myself; other times I wanted to bang my head on my comp desk. Everything seems so much clearer when you take the time to analyze it. I wish I had done that much earlier in my life.

This woman is very different than any other I've been with. In many ways, this is completely new ground for me. Actually, it's been nice. I describe it kinda like not being able to see what's over the hill, but you want to. (At least there probably isn't a Burmese man pit on the other side! )

Re: 'Bout time!

I went through a divorce with my ex who had a mental disorder and now I am married to someone who is reatively stable for 7 years all I can say is grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Athough I have to agree with you on the Burmese man pit thing though. As my lawyer put it divorce is the price us men have to pay for being able to take it out of our pants!

Re: 'Bout time!

Everyone, thanks for the comments. It really has been different since I made a choice to NOT pick the chick with the mental issues. This has really been nice. Hell, I hope it continues this way!

Re: 'Bout time!

hehe I'm included in the credits.

All I gotta say is, relationships need work, but if things are going well, we gotta be careful sometimes that we don't OVER work it. It's like over-thinking yourself out of the game. Let yourself enjoy things without analyzing overmuch.

Course, if you look at my dating track record you'd wonder why the heck you are listening to me at all.

Good luck and keep on keepin' on!

PS When all else fails, try diamonds.

Re: 'Bout time!

CWB: Yep! Some time ago, in a different thread, you told me the same thing. It took some thought, reflection, and a little help from the marriage counselor the ex and I went to for me to make some connections and see that if I continued looking for the same woman I should expect the same result. An additional benefit was for me to see some things about myself that could use some work.

Now, at least things are much better for me. My new lady has her own set of golf clubs, more fishing poles than I do, and better power tools. Hell, the other day, she sharpened by freakin' lawnmower blade!

It's pretty damn nice having a woman with a serious IQ and ownership of cool stuff! She did catch more fish than me the other day....... Maybe she won't tell that to my friends.

HA! Everyone have some fun this weekend!

Re: 'Bout time!

CWB:
Unsure about the Li-ion battery; however, her skill saw does have the laser guidance thingie. Hell, she says she'll help me take down some paneling in the hallway and put up some beadboard in its place.

All that and she can cook some damn good meals. NICE!!

Kulots:
Hopefully, I will not screw things up bad enough to require diamonds, but it's always nice to have "plan b" in your backpocket!

Re: 'Bout time!

msub: I don't think she has any welding or metal turning skills. I will delve into that subject with her this weekend while at the Darlington NASCAR race.

CWB: the cordless drill and skillsaw are NOT Li-ion!

But she does hunt deer with a bow......
