TabletPC's
Ok, so if you haven't already figured it out, I'm a girl who loves techie sorts of things. I am thinking about ordering a Tablet PC at work to play with, but also for business use. Has anyone had a TabletPC and what were your experiences? More specifically, anyone with Fujitsu ST5xxxx series is a plus.
:-)

Re: TabletPC's
I didn't own one, but I used one at a job for a bit. It was nice having it to jot things down and such. But I felt like it was some what useless for "notetaking"... The only reason I'd use one was when I meet with clients, show them my work, and then we can jot down notes or sketch something out. Other than that, I'd take a regular notebook any day of the week.

Re: TabletPC's
Well the nice thing is that the second generation Tablets are more like notebooks. So, I'm curious to make a move on it.

Re: TabletPC's
...my only caution is the OS at this point. XP tablet is rumored to be bug ridden when playing with any non-native Microsoft apps. It does however seem to like playing with the packaged apps. Also had problems with 802.1x in our environment, but I do work in one of the oldest buildings in town. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Re: TabletPC's
We have a Compaq one at our work, and it really sucks. It's so buggy and slow, plus the pointer is really hard to use right (it's the kind that has batteries in it so you don't actually have to touch the screen, only come close). My friend has a Toshiba one, and he likes it. I still think they're a waste of money though.

Re: TabletPC's
Why in the world would you pay top dollar ($2500-ish) for a processor / memory configuration that was obsolete 2 years ago? Look at the processor speeds of these turds compared to a new non-tablet. It seems like some trickery to move old stock that didn't liquidate when the market wasn't moving. Plus you get a fancy smaller screen, crappy docking solutions, and bloated XP still has to run on it!!!
I've played with several of the latest generations of tablets and when thinking of my road-warrior user base that is heavily paper and electronic forms based who could easily adopt to a tablet that was 100% electronic, these things would suck. You would be in perma-cut-and-paste-hell with these things. Until they get the pen interface to work properly in the office suite, these things should remain unpurchased by anyone.

Re: TabletPC's
Well, it depends on what the purpose of the Tablet is. It's obviously not designed to be a gaming machine, but rather a productivity machine. For me, it would allow me to work on designs and specification along with jotting notes in requirement meetings.

Re: TabletPC's
Slower processor != productivity... I looked at them from a business professional's perspective. Clinical physicians to be exact. They jot more notes and fill out more forms than anybody and the current tablet edition XP coupled with less RAM and slower CPU's would hinder them severely. Maybe not you, but most people need the horsepower to back up their mobility. I don't know of too many clinical people who bust out their laptops for a quick game of Half-Life?

:-) Nice. I suppose it depends on what you do to make yourself productive.

Re: TabletPC's
Isn't art software usually more CPU/memory intensive? Again, a strike against the current tablet offerings....
These things will be really cool when they get them beefed up to the current offerings. Definitely a technology to watch!!
