PLEASE HELP!!! Advice needed on restarting a torrent download...

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
I'm posting this topic in two sections- the torrents section and the computers/programming section- because I'M DESPERATE!!!!

I've been downloading a 70GB torrent for the past month and a half and, of course, when I'm at about 90%, got a virus, it crashed the computer, and now when I open my torrent download manager, the torrents I was both uploading and the 90 GB one I was downloading are all gone. The files are still on the hard drive (but still incomplete.)

My question is, how do I restart the torrent without losing what I've already downloaded? Like I said, I've got about 90% downloaded and I just want to restart the torrent (not start over) so I can get the rest of the files.

I would GREATLY appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'm sure (or I hope, at least) there's any easy way to do this.

THANKS.

Where did you put the .torrent file to begin with? I say find that, right click on it and choose your bit torrent client as the program to open it with. I usually put them in the same folder in which I'm downloading the program/movie/whatever. Never do I put them on the C drive.

Well, heres the main problem that you have...depending on the type of torrent downloader you use. 1. some programs do not download the file from beginning to end, they download bits and pieces that are the most available at that time and put all the files together at one time at the end of the download. usually says like " validating Download or Gathering" depending on what program you use. some done even tell you.
2. the other problem is that peopel might not be seeding the parts that you need.. and since im guessing that its a 70G file that not very many people have it. so you will probably just have to wait this one out and hope that whoever is hosting the file starts seeding it again.

if i didnt help ya out with this just PM and i could probably do some fast research on it.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!! Advice needed on restarting a torrent download...

Thanks very much for the replies. The torrent I'm downloading is several seasons of a tv show (I will not name because it will officially make me go from "geek" to "supergeek.") Anyway, the downloader I'm using is uTorrent (good stuff) and you can select individual episodes to download rather than the whole 70GB pie. I think I'm just going to have to bit the bullet and start over (once I get the goddamn cryptdl.dll virus off my PC.) It's a shame because I've been downloading the files for over a month and a half and I was at 90%. But, oh well, that's the joy of using a PC with Windows XP as the operating system. Might as well paint a big bullseye on it.

Thanks again!!!

I think what I outlined above will still work as long as you point the Save To to the folder your previous effort was in.
