I recently had to privilege of fixing my friends alienware 5500i. It sucked. I prefer dell any day, however i found out that Dell bought Alienware and purposely tries to get people to buy the XPS by make the Alienware slightless less dependable that dell. Is this true, and for those with alienware (notebooks) what do you think?? Just wondering.

My buddy has an alienware laptop, and he didn't say anything bad about it.. He said it ran great, and he does a little bit o' gaming on it.

I talked to few of friend who have alienware and they said that they worked great. I guess the one I was working on was just bad, but it was probably something the owner did. I found out that he was running it with no anti virus for the last 3 months. sucker.

Re: Alienware vs Dell XPS

I bought a dell Inspiron e1705 a year ago. I set it up for gaming and it runs great. When I first got it I had an heating problem because laptop fans suck, but I bought a laptop cooler to sit it on and it works fine now. I recently bought cod4 and I am getting anywhere from 50-95fps. I was very suprised. I dont know about alienware warranty either.. but I don't think you can beat dell's warranty. I havent really looked at alienware since dell took them over.

Re: Alienware vs Dell XPS

build it yourself. It costs at least 50% less. My current rig cost 2000 (including Vista and Office) and I priced it out on dell it was over 5500. It was the first time I've ever built a computer and it has been running great for over 5 months now. Its a lot easier than you think and most of the hardware you buy will have warranties equivalent to what you're going to get from dell.
