Having trouble burning?
I am having trouble burning music files, I have Vista as an OS and have media player (of course), winamp, and real player as well, oh and also i-tunes. Anyway, all of my files are winamp files, and when I burn a disc, nothing appears on that disc, when I use media player. I've tried using winamp as well, and also real player with no success. I won't use i-tunes because that would take forever! What am I doing wrong, should I change the files back to windows media files? I'd rather not, but I will if that solves the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Having trouble burning?
Hi
Tell me about it! Not specifically music files as such, but simply trying to burn data CD-Rs. Ended up wasting countless CD-Rs until I realised the burn speed was set too high. Felt really hacked off to say the least. The speed was set no higher than the maximum speed allowed for the particular disks, and yet there would inevitably be an "error" during the burn process. Everything's just fine, now that I've lowered the speed. You may need to lower it drastically to avoid those burn errors, even as low as X8. Good luck.

What you're talking about doing isn't really changing anything about the actual files. They show up as winamp files because in your winamp settings you have that file type(mp3, FLAC, whatever) set to use winamp as the default player. Meaning that if you just double click on a song, it automaticly opens up winamp and plays it.
Do you have Nero?

Re: Having trouble burning?
I've had Nero before and loved it, but I don't have it right now. I know that the only reason they appear as Winamp files is because I set Winamp as the default player, I physically did this a while ago. Should I just try and find a free copy of Nero? I could easily obtain one off a torrent site. I don't think it's the burner speed, but I guess it could be--how do I change that? Any information you guys could provide would be great, thanks in advance.

Just get Nero. You can find a copy any pretty much any torrent tracker, and it's the easiest burn program to use, IMO.

You can change the burn speed as follows:
After clicking "Start" (I'm using Windows XP by the way), click on My Computer and then right click on the icon for DVD/CD-RW. Select the Recording tab at the top right of the window. At the bottom of the new window, you can now alter the burn speed. I'm now using 4X speed instead of the X8 I mentioned earlier. Good luck.
