here's the log of me with tech support. Links to the 2 patches I fixed things with are in bold. If you read everything, it may help you understand if your problem ia like mine. If the links don't work, holler back, I have the downloads, somewhere....Try all the steps given in order. let me know if it works.

DVD Movie Test
Select DVD Movie Test
Click on Yes under 'Do You Want to Continue'

Raul M: In order to get "the CD-ROM drive icon back" or "make it work", perform the following steps. This problem, generally, is caused due to the CD-RW software (Adaptec) installed in the system:
NOTE: These steps involve Windows Registry modifications and hence we suggest you take a backup of the registry before applying the solution.
Registry Backup:
----------------
1. Click Start, Run and type regedit.
2. Click on File menu and select Export option.
3. Give a file name (say regbackup) and save it onto the desktop.
Registry Modification:
----------------------
1. Click Start, Run and type regedit.
2. Click "+" beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
3. Click "+" beside System.
3. Click "+" beside CurrentControlSet.
4. Click "+" beside Control.
5. Click "+" beside Class.
6. Click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
7. Find the values "UpperFilters" and/or "LowerFilters".
8. Highlight and right-click on it. Select Delete and click OK to the warning message.
9. Perform the deletion of fiters procedure on the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet1\Control\Clas s\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

11. From Registry menu, select Exit.
Now, remove the entry for the CD device(s) in the Device Manager and then restart the system.
