DVDRip files won't play

I was wondering what I needed to play DvDRiP movies I downled from torrent sites. I'm suckin right now. I tried burning to them directly to disk using Nero, but Nero said that I can't do it.

IQ: Higher than yours Posts: 7,514/4.19 Threads: 204 Friends Network Gold Member	Re: DVDRip files won't play it may be an avi file encoded with a codec you don't have on your system. google the gspot codec utility & it will tell you what codec the file requires to run on your system, if gspot can't open the file at all then the file is probably corrupt and/or incomplete.

If you open a movie in windows media player classic, it will show the movie format after the movie title above the screen.
