I was wondering what I needed to play DvDRiP movies I downled from torrent sites. I'm suckin right now. I tried burning to them directly to disk using Nero, but Nero said that I can't do it.

Re: DVDRip files won't play
I don't know how to tell if it is a VOB file. The name says that it is an AVI, but I can play AVI files, so I'm sure it's not.

Re: DVDRip files won't play
it may be an avi file encoded with a codec you don't have on your system.
google the gspot codec utility & it will tell you what codec the file requires to run on your system, if gspot can't open the file at all then the file is probably corrupt and/or incomplete.

Re: DVDRip files won't play
also, google K-Lite codec. it's free and will handle 99% of all movies. If you open a movie in windows media player classic, it will show the movie format after the movie title above the screen.

Re: DVDRip files won't play
you guys are wonderful, unfortunately the file was missing parts so it would not play. Thanx for the help. I'm gonna try k-lite to see if it might help.

Re: DVDRip files won't play
you might try the VLC player ... i have found that it will run files that refused to play on/in other players (codecs notwithstanding) .
get it here : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
