Well, since I was banned for "off topic banter," for a day, for the thread about Hillary, I thought I'd start this one. And no, I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone. I look forward to hearing everyone's reasons for a Republican, or the few of us on this forum who vote the other way. Discuss.
The problem here is, being a democrat or a republican shouldn't BE a bad thing. We need to be focussing on platforms that help the good of the nation and not politician's pockets or personal sense of self worth.
As far as why I don't like Hillary's socialist programs:
We can only continue giveaway programs for so long. There are generations living on welfare because it's easier than working and it's easy to get, for some. Hillary wanting to give each newborn $5000 is just another stupid thing to help support her socialist views. Just think how many women would want another child just for the money. Five thousand up front plus a government check every month for 18 years, times how many kids? Don't misunderstand me there are people that deserve help but I would bet there are more drawing it that don't. Every time there is a news article about welfare look at all the people in line talking on their cell phones. Tell me how they can afford that if they are truly needy.
There are political extremest on both sides for sure. No doubt one will post before long. I have at one time been registered with both parties..both had their place and time. Both have gotten so screwed up they don't represent the working man at all. The Republicans back business and the Democrats want to give everything away. I think it's time for something new, but we're sure not finding it in todays politicians.
That is part of the problem. The two major political parties control everything, press, and media of every type. An independent doesn't have a Chinaman's chance of getting elected...if one that wasn't nuts decided to run. To many people vote a party ticket regardless of who's on it, because that's the way their family has always voted. Or because they want something for free. I sure don't have the answers, and am not the brightest bulb in the box, but I know what I don't want, and thats more government giveaway programs, and the taxes to support them. History definitely repeats itself and every time the Democrats get control of congress and the presidency we pay through the nose.
I personally do not see anyone from either party that I trust to lead this country. I've said it before but this next Presidential election will be the most important in American history. I know you know what I'm talking about when I say since 9/11 we have been in a new cold war. We lived up close and personal with the last cold war. We knew how close we were to total devestation of our country if not the world. I feel we are there now.
I know for a fact that our current leadership has done an outstanding job of protecting us despite the attacks of Pelosi, Reid and Boxer. These 3 continue to spout untruths because they know that the President can not respond for giving up secrets of how they are stopping the attacks. IMO there is nothing worse than taking advantage of this situation.
Congress has done nothing to make their promisses come true. They have done nothing at all but drag down a pretty healthy pay check. Every time they and the President agree on a Bill, congress turns around and loads the backend full of their agenda items and then give the President crap for the Veto. The cool thing is that the American public is starting to catch on. The reason congress's approval rating is worse than the Presidents.
I have spent many years trying to figure out why people fall for the the "republican vs. democrat" fight. Are there differences between the parties? Yes; however, I think many people overlook the ability for the two major political parties to stir the pot and keep the true focus off them and teh real issues our country faces. It is easier to screw the people, the country, other countries, and squander our wealth and resources if the truly politically active voters are arguing about who or what is right.
Politics, and the associated politicians, is/are completely about speaking from both sides of the mouth to please the group demanding the most attention at the time. Remember, if there is a voice recorder, news camera, or reporter within earshot, the political "spin" is on.
Yep, definitely agree that the country needs a third option, but that will probably never will happen. The political climate is too divisive not only in Washington, but across the nation--Juan's previous thread highlighted that pretty well. Congress never has approval ratings above 40%, so I really don't see where you're going with that--I admit that their approval rating is really low now, but look at the situation--you have a Senate that is essentially tied, and a House of Representatives that is almost the same. In order for anything to get done in this country, one party has to control 60% of both house of Congress, and the Presidency--but that will never happen.
Congress was designed by the founding fathers to not be able to get much done, it's built into the system that way, and having two dominant parties, and such partisan rhetoric from both sides certainly doesn't help. I am the only person that votes in my immediate family, my Mom has never even registered, both my brother's haven't and my stepdad has never voted either--I don't think. I vote for the person/party that I have the most in common with, and until something drastic changes, that will be the Democrats. If only we had established a Parliamentary system, instead of a Republic. I'll leave with this video, it highlights some of what Bush has "helped" this country with.
I hate youtube for political views. It's obvious the only people that post there are extremists that try to skew people's views because it is so easily accesible.
Is he right all the time, no. Could he do a better job, probably. At least give him an A for effort. I'd love to see what Kerry would have done...or maybe not.
I really don't think a third option is the answer so much as a real person who isn't afraid to make a stand.
Take abortion, personally I don't believe in it. If its kept legal or made illegal again, it won't change how I live...it might make it real risky for some women to go about it because no matter what, people will do as they please if they can get away with it. A lot of politicians dance around it. Same deal with immigration and gay rights etc.
Like all other capitalists, they don't like competition and will not allow more options, because they may actually have to improve their behavior....
In addition, democrats will promise to deliver you from a war and only disappoint you...
Republicans well spend all their time spreading disinformation, and poll the ignorant public to see what they are getting away with.... They discredit sound science, and spend tax money to discredit findings. They have been in power for the majority of the past 30 years, while what it is to be American has been changed for the worse in many people's eyes(outside of this country)..... Our values, no longer consider compassion, and our statics as a country have gone into the toilet...... Just about everything we do as a government, could be called the worst than we could have done....
And the one thing worse than a republican or a Democrat is a wolf in sheep's clothing.... Someone that is clearly to the right or left that claims to be unbiased while arguing his or her point.... It is dishonest and can sway someone else's opinion.....
I would love for someone to step up and tell me what either party is doing right.....
What are the parties doing right? Raising many millions of dollars for each party; pulling the votes for their party from the people; spending their elected time doling out our tax dollars.
In the end, WE give the money, WE vote for the candidates, and WE allow it.
1)I hate youtube for political views. It's obvious the only people that post there are extremists that try to skew people's views because it is so easily accesible.
2)Is he right all the time, no. Could he do a better job, probably. At least give him an A for effort. I'd love to see what Kerry would have done...or maybe not.
1) One could argue that people that are very involved with a democracy are using youtube.. Before youtube, we had people go door to door and neighborhood meetings that were patriots.... Sure some people that are yelling and very emotional, and when you see those, feel sorry for them, don't paint youtube with such a broad brushstroke... You do know that congressmen have posts there, are they extremists?.... But the video 93crawler posted is pretty cleaver, and is even alittle tame.....
2) I, personally, would not give any president an A that oversaw the first domestic attack that resulted in a large scale disruption of the economy and spun the country closer to collapse than we have seen. And the biggest difference in pearl harbor and 9-11 is we did not have the military or technology to stop an attack on a far-away island......
Thanks for reading and sorry for the run-on sentence.....
I will say this, republicans have a chance to redeem themselves through ron paul, and if he is voted in and lives up to his promisses, I would be glad to be lead by a republican.....
I am intrested in any leader that will enforce extreme oversite, because I feel that is a cure all.......
Yeah, Ron Paul would make an excellent President, although his stance on cutting almost every government run program is a little crazy. But he isn't really even a Republican, he's a Libertarian forced to run as a Republican because of the dominant two-party system. If it miraculously came down to Ron Paul and Hillary, I'd most definitely vote for Paul. But regrettably, he doesn't really stand much of a chance of winning, maybe if he ran as a Democrat? He is by far the one who would uphold the values of the constitution, and not just create new laws and find ways around existing ones to suit his own needs.
All I have to say is this-- AL GORE/? '08, or if that fails, STEWART/COLBERT '08!!!!
Yeah, I read it. And by the way, what does I got me some Oban mean? Am I just clueless here?

Oh yeah, BTW, I got me some Oban......
Cheers, to a good friend! Then we are in agreement, that 75% of a candidite's time could be spent doing something a little more productive than raising funds.... Nine trillion it dept, and 450 million spent for office.... Currupt encentives the reward...
This used to be done on soap boxes and through mega-phones or cupped hands.... The most noble people in government are still corrupt, how did this happen?
My retort to a third party member... He is my choice, not because of his party, but because of him(he is my gore, whish he would run):
Is he right all the time, no. Could he do a better job, probably. At least give him an A for effort. I'd love to see what Kerry would have done...or maybe not.

1) I can't respect the argument that goes along the lines of: "imagine how badly so and so would have been if he was elected instead." That gets old. And the funny thing is that it's the calling card for W. Bush now. Between Gore and Kerry, you'd swear they'd combine into the anti-Christ if you trust Republicans or the Fox News Network.
2) You don't believe in abortion... tell you what. When you suddenly get pregnant, let me know if your position on that changes. What's that? You can't have kids because you have a penis? Oh... then how about let's let woman take a larger role in the legality of abortions. You know... cause it affects them slightly more.
3) Gay rights... right up there with segregation or suffrage. I seriously have no idea why people throughout history want to curb the rights of others on how to live their lives. Oh yeah... religion. That, however, is a conversation for a different thread.

Gotta agree with this here. Ron Paul would get my vote and not just because of the Marijuana...he seems to be in touch with the people.
If he were to make it to the real ballot and actually win, I have no doubt his advisors would change his views or he'd end up in the Hoover Dam next to Hoffa.
All I have to say is this-- AL GORE/? '08, or if that fails, STEWART/COLBERT '08!!!!
Al Gore, Ralph Nader, Colin Powell... those 3 along with Colbert would be my choices for a 4way President. Imagine having those 4 minds working together.
Nader, If only he would have had the votes/backing the Kerry had in 2000. He would have made an excellent President, I love it when extremely rich people like Nader, look out for the average person. He's was also, like Gore, right from the start on every issue now facing the country. Kerry was a horrible choice in 2000, I did vote for Nader then, and don't regret it one bit. Dean would have been a better candidate for the Democratic ticket, and he probably would've won also.
Yeah, full public funding of the election process would be the way to go--all of it disclosed, and only limited to a certain amount for every citizen. Did any of you guys watch the extended interview of President Clinton, on the Daily Show? He talked about this very issue.
Here's a link to it if you didn't get to watch the always funny Stewart interview this great man. I don't know how to embed videos, if someone would like to tell me how that'd be great. Thanks.
