Re: New rig
Cool, have fun with the new machine shoudl last you a while, what about graphics card??? I have been looking around to either build a new pc or buy one. i have seen some on ebay here the spec:
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 8MB CACHE 1066 MHZ
2 GB DDR 2 MEMORY
500 GB 16MB CACHE SERIAL ATA
20X DUAL LAYER DVD-RW DRIVE
GE-FORCE 8500GT
not sure about MOBO. But anyway this is on a about £440 or $880. Does anyone think i will be able to get as good value if i build it myself. I don't mind building a machine if it works out quite a lot cheap. I am just a little lazy .

Re: New rig
nice shopping list Wabash, well done.
personally though I would opt for a SATA hard drive & an ASUS motherboard, only because my personal experience has shown me that the ASUS boards are better for overclocking than are Intel boards (which won't) & since I got my two SATA HDs I have been blown away by the speed of them. But take that with a grain of salt as overclocking is a personal choice that another person may not be interested in, and that IDE drive is about as fast as they get.
All told & bearing in mind your budget h1ten, Wabash has done you well!

Re: New rig
if your getting a q6600 make sure to get GO stepping, product code should end in SLACR. Don't know if you plan on overclocking at all. Yea that 8500 gfx card is garbage. Here's my killer combo. That MB will outperform so many other P35 MB's and that ram is highly regarded for OCing along with the quad.
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
2gb Crucial Ballistix ddr 800
Q6600 GO stepping
WD 750gb sata2 it performs on par with the WD raptors

Re: New rig
shit son.... I didn't even notice that hd was ide. I've been all sata so long that I assumed that all drives were sata by now. it's the same price for the sata one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16822148136
seagate drives are nice because they come with a great warranty
I picked the intel mobo for stability over overclockablity. Feel free to sub in anyother board you feel like.
