Re: Windows Vista
Well, thanks anyways. The reason I wanted it was because I need to reinstall my OS but since I had my computer custom built, it didn't come with an OS CD so I'm screwed. And I don't have $150 to shell out right now...

Re: Windows Vista
have you thought about going back to the outfit that built your machine and asking for a copy of the OS ? you should have your activation code ... it should have come with the machine .
you might have to call microsoft to activate the new install , they can track the validity of the original install ... i've had to do that in the past for customers that got screwed by a company that was no longer in business .
that's one of the problems with most of those "custom" machines ... you don't get an OS disk .
with the machines i have built for customers i have always used an original "individual" copy of the OS . my reasoning is that if there is a problem down the road , no matter where the machine has gone to (shipped them off 1500 miles away) the OS/disk is not an issue . besides , the customer paid for an OS and he has the right to (read owns) that copy .
i feel it is just good business ethics .

Re: Windows Vista
I have thought about doing that, but I thought they would charge me for that. It does sound logical that I should have a right to the disk. Thanks for that info. I'll try that then. But I would still like to try out Vista for free

Re: Windows Vista
personally, scatterbrain, I have tried out Vista, and ended up going back to Windows XP SP2. Vista had some cool GUI stuff going for it, but I just like XP better. Maybe Vista will improve (like XP did), but until then I am content with XPSP2. BTW I have a good corporate licensed copy that you can use if you are interested.

Re: Windows Vista
I remember when I tried to get a free version of XP the first year it came out and none of the versions works (30-day activation). Vista has been cracked and it works flawlessly like a charm. Trick the bios!!!
