Well, how about people that have "Garage Sells" & don't report it....samething. Were do you draw the line.

I think it's more of a BIG BROTHER issue with the Govt wanting to no everything!!!!!

I think someone had thier finger stuck on one of their calculator buttons. There is a precentage of sellers on eBay that are businesses that should be filing Tax returns like any storefront seller. And a lot of these guys are making profits because they rob people by misstating retail prices or shipping charges.

It sounds like one big bookeeping cluster fuck both for the government and the private sector. eBay will have to keep track of everybodies' gross sales and send out forms to the Fed and to the sellers. Sellers will have to start keeping a complete set of books to show proof of profit and loss. Average Joes selling used goods will need depriciation values to determine if they make a profit. And then there's the sales tax and other employment taxes like social security, medicare, and state taxes.

Sounds like an effort to close down online auctions because home businesses will close and the average Joe will go back to lawn sales.

Most don't but the requirement is there and it's not enforced.

Also.. those who buy from retail sites are supposed to report what they spent and pay a sales tax to their state gov too.. It would be so hard and costly to prove I dont see how far this would get.
