Its come to this with myself and my wife. If you went through a devorce how badly did she screw you over? I am worried about all of my stuff i am going to loose.. She isint and never was a stay at home mom. we dont have kids and she has a good paying very secure job.. should i be hella worried? Or should i just pack up and go while she is visiting her mom out of town?

Re: Have you been through a devorce?

If you had a prenup, you would be laughing - the terms stated in it are virtually bullet proof. With no kids you should be happy because you don't have to pay support of any kind.

Shes going to hit you for at least half of what you own. In Australia the split tends more towards 65% to the wife with the rest going to the man regardless of what happens. Personally I'd try to be civil with her, offer to split the assests right down the middle, or in a ratio comparable to your incomes (if she earns alot more). If you guys can settle this yourselves you'll end out in a better situation as you'll avoid large court costs.

Good advice from skept above but beware, most turn out to be devious and often have someone in waiting.

Re: Have you been through a devorce?

Well we started talking about it and she is being very nice about things. spliting things right down the middle. i keep everything i had befroe she came into my life and everything she had she keeps. all the rest we are spliting. She actually doensnt want the house (thank god i love it out here) and the amount of money she would like due to the share of the house thats her's is more then fair and easy to give her.

Thanks again guys. cause i was really thinking about just walking out.

Don't just walk away from things, this could put you at a serious disadvantage in the courtroom, depending upon the state you live in. Try to work things out as civil as possible; in the end, things will be much better. It will still stink, and hurt, but things will get better. Been through it once before, and now going through it with the person I thought was the love of my life. Oh well, learn from it.

Re: Have you been through a devorce?

Division of assets depends on the state you live in. Most states are 50/50. Be careful.
What you would want to ensure you don't pay alimony is a fault divorce (adultery, felony, drug addiction... again varries by state). You could agree to the division of assets and she could come back for alimony...

Re: Have you been through a devorce?

Yup.

Same situation, no kids, both worked.

Kept the whole thing civil, we each took what we came with and split up the rest, got a paralegal to fill out all the paperwork, waited the required 18 months, 10 minutes with the judge and that was that.

As long as the two of you don't turn it into a war you should be fine. Remember that women tend to have a whole different veiw of marrige than men, and they react differently to divorce as well.

Don't sign anything without a lawyer....no matter how small, don't sign....have
everything go through a lawyer....might be expensive, but will help you out in
the long run.....I was overseas, and signed a power of attorney, came back to
nothing....no house, cars, money, not a thing....and I was divorced....

Re: Have you been through a devorce?

Well- You in a little hard spot- She could take alot from you but you can also do the same, if she is in agreement with you on the divorce and you seperate on fairly good terms then you may get away with everything you own...

One thing I learned is "TRY" to be cool with her- I know you both are having strong emotions but keep it where you can be friends while this is going on.

But if she is being stupid and dosent want to work with you- just do as my uncle did- He got a spray bottle and filled it with water and unplugged everything electrical and sprayed water on the inside- and after he moved out she started to plug things in and they where burning out, She got very upset put - he told the Judge "there must be a short or something"- Yeah he won too !!!
