I'll add my two cents worth. It's hard to know how much you're eating during a day. I've lost about 30 lbs in the last two months. That's fast, but then again, I took drastic measures which I will describe below. Different shit works for different people, but my problem was that I was completely unaware of the caloric content of all the things I consumed. In order to gain complete awareness in the matter, I wrote everything, and i mean everything, that i ate down. I write it in a book and I put the calories associated with it. And I add it up at pivotable points during the day. You can look all of it up online @ nutritiondata.com. This will force you to recognize how many calories you consume per day. (I was eating around 4000, but i would have guessed 3000). It's got generic food and fast food too. they say that hindsight is 20/20, but most people only use hindsight for the purposed of regret instead of using it to make a decent decision the next time. Once you see your eating habits in print, then you can begin making smart, easy decisions about how to start cutting calories. It won't be hard either. I've come up with this method from my own personal F'd up nature. I can do things that are good for me all day long, but I'm really bad at not doing things that are bad for me. For instance, I can make myself exercise 2 hours in a day, no prob. But I can't keep myself from eating before bed sometimes. So I figured out that if I stop concentrating on not eating, but then start concentrating on controlling the situation by taking action, I get decent results. If you write it all down, trust me, you'll find easy ways to mold your daily diet into something that is good for you without going on a diet. Things will just change. Anyway, by writing it down, you're making a visible effort and you have solid numbers in front of you all the time. If you have self control issues, then that definitely helps. the other thing of course is that you should work out and exercise. Running/Cardio is good because it burns fat of course, but it's also really important to get in the gym and lift weights. Adding muscle will boost your metabolism. I've been writing it down for two months now and I've gotten really good at guessing calorie contents of whatever is in front of me. btw, I'm not saying to only allow yourself so many calories per day either. Believe me, just writing it down will be enough to get the ball rolling. I also have a Polar heartrate monitor that estimates my caloric expenditure when running and lifting. You can also get online and figure out what the average metabolism is for someone your size and activity level. Apparently it takes about 3100 a day for me to maintain my weight. My fat loss has been pretty drastic, and I've hit the gym pretty heavy to maintain muscle so that i don't have to start eating less.
Long story short:
1) Write it down religiously. I can't describe exactly how it works, but it does.
2) Run or do some high heartrate cardio. It'll take the fat off fast.
3) Make sure you do weight training. Your metabolism will get a nice boost that will be constantly pearing you down.

low carb. 20 carbs per day. absolutely no sugars. a lot of protein and veggies. 20 pounds in 2 weeks. Lots of water as well.

Don't drink any regular soda. The low carb diet helped me, but kicking regular coke, as well as heavy beer had the biggest effect.

I find rather than running for an hour or whatever some of the other guys were saying doesn't really get the best results .... you build up good endurance but i find if you do a varied workout you can get better results
I tend to do cardio like this
go slow for 2 mins (warm up)
jog for about 3 mins
sprint for 5 mins
jog for 5
sprint for 5
jog/walk for a bit to cool down
but make sure you do weight training aswell so your not the guy that lost weight but has absolutely no muscle tone. I have found swimming is a really good work out as well I usually go for a swim after I weight train for my cardio. Im not very good at it yet so i tend to half drown every once in a while.

this is my routine, but with your schedule I dunno if it'll work, and this routine didn't come overnight, I've kinda become a workout-a-holic, everyday I do 40 minutes of cardio with intervals of either higher speed or more incline 6 days/week, then lift weights doing chest/triceps/biceps on monday/wed/fri then switching to back/shoulders on tue/thur/sat and I do abs 6 days a week, your abs can be worked and worked and worked, they're very strong and people don't realize that to get where you wanna be its gotta be working hard everyday, and once you start to see the results you'll want to work on it more and you'll start to feel so much better, plain and simple---Work Out and Eat Healthier, I'm sure thats hard on the road, but everytime you stop to get food, look at what you're gonna get and I bet you can find something healthier...good luck! in the end it will all depend how much you want it
