Crisis Counseling

I saw this on another forum and thought it was hilarious. Isn't it on the Golden Gate bridge, any of you Cali members seen this?

The Fremont Bridge in Portland has "suicide hotline" signs all along the upper deck. I don't remember if they are on the lower deck, but it always makes me laugh when I see them.
A friend of mine said that a guy and his girlfriend hung themselves from the upper deck and swung in view of the lower deck during rush hour. I guess it happened a few years ago.

I remember when I was living in SF, there was some "even numbered" milestone suicide that happened. Something like the 1000th or 2000th or something like that.

They kept it hush hush for a long time and didn't mention anything until after the milestone happened.

They were afraid that there would be a mad rush to be "the guy/gal" to be that milestone number.

Fucking idiots. Reminds me of the bridge scene in Steve Martin's The Lonely Guy where people are heard jumping and committing suicide in the background, left and right. :bowrofl:

Oh, and I think most major bridges have these signs as a CYA for surviving members of dipshits that jump, so they can't come back on the city/state. I know the Coronado Bridge in San Diego has them. For those outside of SoCal, this is the bridge that the Jack Black/Will Ferrel "burrito scene" from Anchorman was filmed.

If the fall doesn't kill 'em, the sharks will.

Like guppies falling from heaven.

Yeah, I've got a twisted sense of humor; I found that to be hilarious!! I'm not sure if any long span or high bridges in SC have signs like these. Do folks in my state jump knowing they will not sue if they make it??

I was across that back in 1969 when it first opened. I didn't even like driving across it. Not bad having the 3rd highest suicide rate in the US and no pedestrian walkway.

Back when I was seventeen working in center city, I walked across the Benjamin Franklin bridge from Philly to Camden.several times. It seemed safer than taking the subway. Built in 1926 the 2 walkways are above the road and rail lines. Never noticed any signs or phones for possible jumpers maybe because the drop is only 135 feet or the fact that you might fall on the roadway or rail line. You don't need to go to the bridge to get hit by a subway car.
