When the official attempted to back away, police said the player grabbed him and bit his face just below his lower lip and underneath his chin. Authorities said the player took off his shirt and fled the scene after the altercation.

The official was treated for severe lacerations to his face.

"The official in this case did the right thing, he backed away and tried to de-escalate the situation," Corporal Trinidad Navarro said.

The referee positively identified Jones from a photo, but police were unable to locate the suspect. Jones later called police headquarters and agreed to turn himself in.

He is facing charges of felony assault, abuse of a sports official and related offenses.

This video says he got a red card. The video I seen showed him gettting a yellow card.

Actually, any african immigrats I've met don't like to be lumped in with black americans. But it's really a matter of meeting both good and bad no matter how long they been out in the sun.

From the video I seen originally it was a black team playing a white team. I don't know I the guy thought the ref was being partial or not. But why bite the ref, he could of smacked him or kneed him in the nuts. I wonder if the ref got tested for aids.

Did the ref toss him the red card AFTER the bite?? What do you throw out to kick a player off the field??

I agree with Licu: the folks I know immigrating from Africa are quick to point out they are not like black Americans. Most immigrants I know are very proud of their country of origin and don't even like to be lumped as "African".
