Eragon?

Anyone read it? GF is saying I need to read it before we see the movie. It's checked out from the library and I don't feel like buying it, so we shall see about that.

I bought it for the same reason, haven't read it yet. Isn't it like the first in a series?

I know it's part of a series, but I'm not sure if it's the first.
I always suggest reading the book(s) before seeing the movie, even though I haven't read this book.

I always find reading the books make the movie suck more! I dont know anything about the movie or book for that matter. I've only seen it on the shelves.

Re: Eragon?

I think it works the other way.
I always find that the sets, actor etc. get in the way of really immersing yourself into a world when talking about a series of novels.
Like the Tom Clancy books on Jack Ryan...so much better without the likes of Harrison Ford or Ben Afflac on the brain.
I think LOTR might have been an exception, but I read them ages before the movies came out.

My wife got the books and didn't really like them. I used to read books like that but I kind of lost interest, for no specific reason really.

I read the book and the sequel. The movie was just alright at best - the book was actually pretty cool and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy fiction. The book is a million times better than the movie. You don't reallly know the story unless you've read the book. So,, I say the girlfriend is right...read the book.

Re: Eragon?

Well, I watched the movie.

It was the most derivitive, unoriginal piece of shit I've ever seen. If you've seen Star Wars you've seen Eragon. It's such a blatant fucking rip off I spend 40 minutes bitching about it. I don't know if it's the director's fault or if the book is like that too, but they copied it right down to the scene where he is looking out at the sunset.

Bullshit. I think the director should be castrated.

The book is so much better than the Movie, I just hope with the 2nd film they decide to spend some more money on it unlike the 1st which was a half hearted piece of crap.

I read the book and watched the movie a month ago. Books was much better. A decent movie, but could have been much much better.

Re: Eragon?

Eragon was your typical fantasy fiction book. I haven't seen the movie yet, but based on what you guys say I probably won't. Ever since Lord of the Ring (or perhaps even before that) the fantasy books have been the same. An Evil tyrant rules over corrupt lands, some unexpected youth comes out of nowhere to save the day. And they constantly seem to get younger. I think they said Eragon was fifteen in the beginning of the book. Jesus, I wish I had a Dragon and a glowing sword at fifteen.

Re: Eragon?

I've enjoyed both books that are out, and will read the 3rd if he ever finishes it.

The differences between the movie and the book are so HUGE, that it was a different story with the same character names and places.

And oh ya, the dragon looked nothing like the description in the book. I have NO redeeming things to say about the movie. I recommend the book.

Re: Eragon?

yes, compared with the book, the movie sucked balls. what they did to the book to make the movie was condense it to a short story and add more fire. that's pretty much it.

Re: Eragon?

Lord of the Rings has ruined me. I can't get into any other fantasy, everything else seems so basic and corny.
