Chuck Palahniuk is probably my absolute favorite. "Choke" is my fav. Fortunately all of his books are currently in production to become movies.

Some other greats and recommended reading.

Vonnegut: Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five

Hunter S. Thompson: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Rum Diary

David Eddings: Any of his fantasy series (Elenium, Belgariad, etc...)

Tolkein of course

Just a few here, what about you guys (and gals)

I just finished reading Diary by Chuck Palahniuk; it was the first novel of his I've read but I'll definitely be checking out more.

I am partial to Sidney Sheldon; his unexpected twists get me every time. I'm also thoroughly enjoying Ann-Marie MacDonald, a fairly new Canadian author.

As for the more classic authors, I'd have to say John Steinbeck is my favourite.

Rex Miller - "Chaingang" series
Andrew Vachss - "Burke" series
Lawerence Block - "Hitman" and "Matthew Scudder" series
Piers Anthony - "Incarnations of immortality" series

"Battle Circle" by Piers Anthony is the only book I have ever read more than once. I have read it about 10 times I would say over my 37 years. By far my favortie book of all time.

J.R.R. Tolkein

Terry Goodkind, IMO he's very much like Tolkein in the way he goes about telling his stories. The sword of truth series is immense.

also quite like Dan Brown (if you dont take his books seriously), JK Rowling does a decent enough job with the Potter books, and im quite partial to Micheal Criton.

Re: Favorite Authors

David Sedaris has written some good stuff, including Naked, and Barrel Fever.

I've heard him read passages in person, and can't stand the sound of his voice.

But if you really want to be moved, you have to go with Steinbeck.
