Ok now why I put my fingers on the keyboard. My wife is 1/2 Mexican. Until she was 4 she spoke mostly Spanish, because her grandparent spoke mostly Spanish and they babysat her. When it was time to register for kindergarten, the school said that they would not accept her unless her English improved. For the next year she only was allowed to speak English and the Grandparents had to use as much English as possible. Only now she knows no Spanish at all.
So about a month ago at work, a person in the cafeteria was speaking in Spanish and called her a pochita, in a snide way. This upset my wife and she asked the supervisor, to remind her that racial slurs should not be used in the workplace. Of course everyone denied everything, and the supervisor was not suppose to reveal the source of the complaint. However now the harassment has increased and the whole cafeteria staff either won't talk when my wife is there or they make over the top pleasantries. Like "Heeellloo Senora, is there anything you would like a poor worker to do for you today?" Really childish stuff. I have told my wife to ignore them but she is an emotional one.
Not looking for answers. Just this post made me think of it.
