When autism is actually the problem, yes it is serious. However, to many doctors come up with a "trash can" diagnosis of autism, bi-polar and ADD/ADHD. The proper tests are not performed and a child is pretty much thrown away because the parents want an explanation of why their kid is an ass when its because the parents are just lazy. The doctor is either to lazy to make a proper diagnosis or doesn't want to call out the parents faults. Each of these conditions are real and are serious conditions, but each one is over diagnosed. I have known children that legitimately lived with these conditions and I have known children that were misdiagnosed with them. It isn't hard to tell the difference.
