Re: HELP! looking for a great fantasy / fiction series!

A great read I enjoyed was The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers.
Less philosophy and more historical romp.
Time travel, body swapping and even the Romantic poet Coleridge play a part.
I liked the way the time travellers identified each other by whistling 'Yesterday (all my troubles seemed so far away)'

Re: HELP! looking for a great fantasy / fiction series!

And not really part of a series but another Tim Powers book...

The Drawing of the Dark.
This one has someone who might or might not be Merlin. The irish mercenary Brian Duffy might or might not be the once and future King, They are holed up in Venice as the Turks have just taken Vienna and theres nothing to stop them taking the rest of Europe. A longboat rows up the Grand Canal, some ancient Vikings have arrived looking for Ragnarok.
In the meantime everyone waits for the perfect time to crack the barrel of Herzwesten Beer.

Re: HELP! looking for a great fantasy / fiction series!

A couple of series to look into...

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
This is the anti-Narnia series. It is fantasy-based, but the author is atheist, so it his like the opposite of CS Lewis. Decent read.

Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony
One of the best series I have read. Very entertaining. Each book covers another incarnation (Death, Mother Nature, Fate, etc) It is amazing how all the books tie in together by the end.

Happy reading and let me know what you think...
