Greatest Living Frenchman
I've enjoyed the discussion in Dan Gerus' thread. So I thought we might try it with France as well. My top five choices are:
1. Louis XIV
2. Napolean Bonaparte
3. Adolph Thiers
4. Voltaire
5. Maximilien de Robespierre

Re: Greatest Living Frenchman
May I just point out that Napolean is not alive anymore?

May I just point out that ALL of the people on my list are dead! If you took the time to review the thread that sparked this one, then you might realize the sarcasm that I was using in the title of this thread. But alas, some people just aren't on the same page...

Then you also are at fault on this one. I was going to post 5 blank answers but I realized that this is in the vag and I can't do that.

Re: Greatest Living Frenchman
True the comment that I made was a tad bit derogative. For that I apologize. I don't take sarcastic criticism very well in the EOTH. I wanted this thread to be a follow up to the Brit thread. Thus the same title. I'll watch what I type from here on out.

The artist was named Bartholdi, but the framework that actually holds the statue up was Eiffel. The same guy that built the tower in paris.

What really happened was that i had what is commonly known on our damp little rock as a brain fart and included the word living in the thread title.
I always intended my thread to be open to all people living or dead.
Anyway my Greatest Living Frenchman is Eric Cantona. No really. Shallow maybe but the guy is/was a genuine great in his chosen field of Professional Football. He was a genuine matchwinner, a once in a generation player. Controversial (Anyone remember the Kung-Fu kick aimed at the head of that Crystal Palace fan that gave him shit?), Hotheaded (Numerous opposition players were stamped on without hesitation for daring to foul him) but despite all that he still gets revered probably because he was a flawed genius who in my opinion walked away from the game too early.
Honourable mentions - Napoleon Boneparte, Serge Gainsbourg, Thierry Henry.
If anyone wants to start a Greatest Living Italian i nominate Valentino Rossi
