Re: What is your favorite book?
I, too, like to read The Lord of the Rings every few years if I can - but there are way too many good books out there to keep going back to the exact same ones every single year for me.
I knuckled and started reading the Harry Potter series, and since I'm a tad O-C I had to finish what I started. I've only ever not finished one book my entire life - that was Hedda Gabler by Ibsen my freshman year in college. OK, I know it's a play, not a book in itself - but you know what I mean.
I bounce back & forth between several genres - for years I 'kept up' with the Shannara series until it finally dawned on me that they were the same stories over and over, but with different character names. But the original Sword of Shannara was pretty good - not in my top 10, though.
David Copperfield and Three Men in a Boat are favorites, as are most of Raymond Chandler's detective stories. Add to that the Richard Hannay stories by John Buchan and Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I'd mention that I like Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, but that would sound pretentious - and we wouldn't want to go there ... would we?

Re: What is your favorite book?
The republican war on science.....
The long emergency.......
Metro farmer.......
Tragedy of the commons....
But yall already guessed these I bet!!!!!!!!!!
I am impressed to see slaughter house five mentioned, tough read for me, but well worth the effort... The transitions were confusing and I never new about dresdon until the book....... We murdered our POW's!!!!!!!!!
More fiction I would have to say the giving tree, I have had a copy for 31 years and pick it up several times a year........

Re: What is your favorite book?
There are way to many great single books to pick one.
I enjoy series now. Lord of the Rings, HP (Easy read, but was a good story), Sword of Truth, Jack Ryan etc.
Anything that I can lose myself in for a month or so!

Re: What is your favorite book?
They're on the long side, but anything by Charles Dickens is a good read. And for short fiction, HP Lovecraft beats Stephen King hands down, any day of the week!
