My girlfriend and I are gonna have sex soon for the first time (for both of us). I get the impression that she's really nervous about it. I guess I'm nervous too, but just a very tiny bit... Some of my friends say that maybe we should listen to music or put on a movie (not a porn movie, just a regular movie) when doing it. Is this a good recommendation? And any tips on what we should do and or be aware of?

Try a movie that has slight sexual tones. I got some while watching American Pie. Something along those lines might get the curiosity factor to outweigh the awkward factor. Sex Drive would be another good example (plus, it's funny as hell).

Just wait until she is ready. Don't be pushy. It is bound to happen, and whatever movie or song is on probably won't matter. Build up to it and make it a pleasent experience. Chances are, she won't be the one you marry and spend the rest of your life with, so at least have it be a good memory and not some akward pre planned nervous shakefest.

She's not nervous because she's unsure, she's nervous just because she's never done it. Any recommendations on where to get condoms? Online or in a store? But I have a feeling that I'd feel weird buying condoms or anything sex-related in a store in person...

Okay, kid, so you are telling us she is sure about it and wants it. Then why would you come on a forum and ask a group of strangers what is a good way to deflower your girl friend and what she would prefer?

She's your girl, son! Pick up rubbers anywhere. No one cares if you buy them. Some people will appreciate you buying them. Do whatever she wants to do to set her in the mood. Chances are the first time will suck anyway (as far as sex goes) so just do it and make it as fun as you can.

Juan has a point. The first few times are a learning stage, so it's not gonna matter that much how well you try to plan this.

In this case condoms are only to prevent a pregnancy, so just pick them up at any local store. The more times you do it, the easier it is, so you may as well get good habits now and possibly experiment with different brands to see which you prefer.

As far as buying condoms feeling weird....it always does, but nobody cares except the person buying them.

I have a bit of a take on the whole condom thing - if you aren't comfortable buying condoms, why the hell are you having sex - the two should go hand in hand for someone your age and just starting out. If you feel a stigma about buying protection for you and for her then I wonder about your emotional maturity when it comes to having sex....

I agree with you Talen up to a point. I was going to mention the whole maturity thing because it was the first impression I had also....figured I'd give them the benefit of doubt.
Most people do feel a bit self-conscious though.

You guys are being dicks. Try and remember your first time...did you even bother asking for suggestions or help? Were you fine with buying rubbers, or did you even use them? This kid is 19 years old! You figure if he waited this long, he was responsible enough! Still young enough to feel semi guilty about it. Quit judging the dude, and just congratulate him on losing his cherry.

Pick any rubber up from any liquor store dude, or a restroom (coin operated) or even a free clinic. This is going to sound really shitty, but if I could do it over again, I wouldn't even have used rubbers my first time, I DIDN'T NUT! lol

I remember the first time i was buying condoms and there where so many of them i didnt know which one to get. I walked up to the guy who was at the register and asked where the medium size condoms where, he giggled and then he grabbed a box of rubbers from behind him, charged me for it and said: good luck kid.

Its ok to feel nervous about going to buy rubbers for the first time dude, people are allways nervous the first time they do something. You can just ask a friend to borrow you some but youll have to go and buy them eventually so might as well just go ahead and get it done now.

Tips for first time sex... not much to say just smile and go with it. In a couple months youll be laughing that you came to a forum asking complete strangers for this kind of advice.

Damn, it has been forever since I posted on the forum. If you're not feeling like dealing with a cashier, if you know of any grocery stores (ie Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons) that have a self check out, try using that. Good luck on your big night.

Try not to think about it too much. I know-tough to do, but just let it happen. And make sure you go get the condoms-you'll get used to buying them just like you'll get better at using them. Good luck and be safe!

There ya go, Bob! (I was actually planned though hehe) What's the purpose of using a rubber? Mainly, its for std's and birth control. Why would you be concerned about std's with a virgin? And why would you mess up your first shot at sex by putting a 8 mil thick piece of plastic between you and your girl? SPECIALLY if there are more methods of BC, foam, pills, shots, etc.

Its no mystery around here that rubbers and I don't get along. Its also no mystery that I've been around the block more times than the ice cream man. I'm STD free. I would seriously just use something else if I were the poster.

Regardless, I hope he posts after his experience.
