Can't cry..

Anyone else not able to cry? My eyes will tear up, but I don't get the whole hyperventalating, runny nose, salty liquid down cheek deal. Instead, when I feel I have to cry, I yawn.. I used to be really emotional as a kid..I'd get choked up at everything, if I were yelled at, I'd get that cold feeling in my throat and all that jazz. I haven't tried physical pain yet, but stuff that used to affect me emotionally no longer does. I haven't been able to cry for over a year now..it's pretty annoying, and probably not healthy. Any advice?

Personally, I think not doing the whole shebang at the drop of a hat is a sign of growing up. I used to cry all the time, and now I barely cry if hurt (don't get hurt often, thankfully), and at most get teary-eyed when it comes to the shitty part of relationships.

In my opinion, if you're no longer crying when you get yelled at, that's probably a good thing. If you're not crying when somebody near to you dies, you're probably facing something pretty deep.

Re: Can't cry..

I just dont cry aswell. Its nothing to be ashamed of. Physical pain for me is really nothing anymore - I have come to a point where I have began to channel the pain. Now this might sound stupid to you - like how can one turn off pain and emotions? To me the human spirit and will is stronger then anything mortal - and if you try you will find out that pain can be easily overcome just by the state of mind that you are in.

As for the crying well you have grown up. As a child your emotional capacity in my mind is much smaller then that of an adult. As a child things seem to be worse on a far greater magnitude then as an adult. I believe that we all 'cry' in our own way as adults - some people have tears streaming down their face - others develop 'sad' habits. If there has been a sad point in your life where you said 'why didnt I cry at that time' then look at what you did during that time. Maybe there was some recurring thing that you did to deal with this sadness.
