I liked Boston due to the size and the numerous things to see as far as historic sites. Newport is really lovely too and probably less crowded and quieter.

Spent some time in Newport a few years back, nice place. You could also head over to Cape Cod from there if the weathers nice enough. With the wife being 8 months at the time, check the weather before thinking of heading over to one of the islands though ( Marthas vineyard - etc ). Nice place though, recommend it.

I lived in Boston for two years. It is a great city. There are tons of stuff to see and do. Newport is a lot smaller and more quaint. I would go to Boston though.

I live in Boston...It's a great city to visit, but not too great to live in. Note that all public transportation closes at around midnight, and most shops and restraunts close around 10ish... I've never been to Newport, so can't comment on it. IMHO, you should visit Chicago. |

Boston is nice, but Newport is the best. Awesome beaches, mansion tours, the Cliff Walk, shopping, restaurants, boating, etc.
