I don't think anyone's mentioned this, but another thing keeping the 'dro off the show is the relative ease with which it can be produced. Any moron can grow the shit in his own home without too much trouble. That means, unless they tax on the seeds, the governement gets nothing off the industry. Even then, you can harvest seeds from your own plant, making even that useless. Ah well, if everyone smoked, there'd be no one angry enough for war, and that's just not profitable....

I've got a funny story about this.

I have this friend. Most conservative Bush-supporting Rush Limbaugh loving freak you could possibly imagine. Somehow, we manage to get along. Anyway, our wives are close friends. So, this guy smokes more pot than I did as a teenager. (He's 36 and has 3 kids). Any given time I see him, there's almost zero chance he's straight.

Yet, I can't convince him that pot should be legal.

I mean, this guy could get caught, go to prison, and get fucked up the ass, while some other guy comes along, and screws his wife, and raises his kids - while he's doing hard time.

He thinks he's addicted, and it's a dangerous substance, and he thinks that if it were legal, everyone would get addicted. Dumb motherfucker. Of course, he's self employed, so other than the illegalness, it doesn't really intefere with his life at all. If I did it, I'd probably get drug tested at my job. :(

Good point! So in there eyes what's the point in legalizing it. Unless they make some kind of profit in the drug war. Which may be.
If they aren't making a profit, then leagalizing weed would atleast reduce the cost to fight it.

I think it should be like alcohol where you cant drive while under the influence and be high in public, but it should be legal other than that. I just think the government should spend its time on drugs that actually hurt people, like crack or something.

There are some legitimate reasons that marijuana, and all drugs, should be legal:
1) Drug addiction and abuse is a medical problem, not a criminal problem;
2) The "War on Drugs"
a) is actually just a war on empoverished communities, i.e. people are more accustomed to illegal behavior, because crime and poverty follow each other, and thus members of poor communities are sent to jail more often, the children in these communities grow up with the sense that crime and jail are just part of life and end up perpetuating the crime and poverty that they grew up with [yes this is a broad model, and in no way a negative reflection on individuals, one is never guilty of poverty, only a victim of it]; b) leads to hundreds of thousands of arrests in the USA each year, wasting valuable police and policy makers' time and funding, only managing to arrest small time users who are quite often guilty of nothing else other than drug use; c) wastes our taxes to keep these people in jail; d) despite what the two Bush administrations propagandize, as well as the Clinton administration to a degree, is unsuccessful in thwarting drug use and the illegal trafficing of drugs, and thus an entire waste of our taxes. Eliminating the "War on Drugs" would a) free up the money spent on it, enabling us to put those resources into rehabilitation programs, drug education, and drug monitoring; b) would allow the government to monitor the content and quality of drugs, as they do with other legal drugs, to reduce risk for users and non-users
