When you open a loaf of sliced bread, do you eat the pieces in order? Or do you save the heels for last, and keep skipping over that first slice?
Neither. My wife is the one who touches the bread. I haven't reached into a bag of unopened bread in years. :)

Depends on what type of wrapper it came in, and whether it should have a soft or crunchy crust.
But then i don't have a wife to pander to all my 18th century expectations either..

in order i guess
but sliced bread is terrible, it's really not worth eating aside from a few random uses (toast, classic grilled cheese, etc)
and that's coming from someone who is a huge fan of bread. seriously, it's totally my favorite food

Today when I made a sandwich, I found I had 2 heels left. I have skipped the heels until the end since childhood. Not sure why though. Maybe my family did and I copied them. Maybe I thought the loaf would stay fresher with a heel on the end. Maybe I thought a sandwich with a heel and a normal slice looked funny or tasted different. Maybe I thought the heels had less food because they were smaller and I was hungry. It's kind of like that question of how you hang your TP in the bathroom, inside of tissue showing on what's dangling, or outside.

If I shit in somebody's house and they've got their paper wrong, I'll change it.

Just grab the nearest hand towel and wipe :)
I open a new loaf pull back the first two slices and start there...heels go out to the birds

Same here.
But believe it or not, there are some who'd probably call their hot 22-year old wife in to change it for them..

Meh. She used to be hot. Now she's just somebody's mom.
Be that a lesson to all of you. No matter how hot she is, put a sock on that shit, or she'll end up being somebody's mom.

On topic: I actually prefer the heels, and have been known to dig to the bottom of the just-opened loaf to get the last heel so I can make a sandwich with both of them.

Interesting, first person I heard of that did that. I do know a piece heel sandwich isn't that bad, the chicken breast and jalapeno cheese one I had yesterday to finish my loaf was pretty good.
However, I wonder a couple of things. If you share that loaf, do you have hairy arms? If so, do you wear a long sleeve shirt when you dig to the last slice? Well, maybe I shouldn't wonder, let's leave that to your daughter.
We need a hairy smiley.:kdubbd: that one has a mustache, maybe.

generally when preparing food I have clean hands, and no, I do not leave hair or any other detritus in the bread bag.

That's good to know. Rmember the old days when dentists didn't wear plastic gloves? You were in for some shit if he had hairy arms. Heh, and old Mad Magazine had a "Don't you Hate..." cartoon topic and that scenario was one of them. Meanwhile, woking on a new loaf of bread and still skipping the first heel.....

I too prefer the crust (that's what we call the heels over here) but was raised to leave till last, as they help the bread remain fresher for longer, and caused less arguments with siblings over who got to it first.
Not that it really matters these days, what with airtight bags, and freshly baked tasting so much better.
Old habits and all..

Shit, back then the bitch'd have to slice it for you, too. Letting them used pre-sliced loaves is positively progressive.
The correct answer, by the way, is "I don't know."

I agree with everything in this statement. Prefer the crust but leave it to help keep the loaf fresh...but much prefer fresh homemade bread. I even have the best 90's invention...the breadmaker!
