Found this site while looking for whatever happened to Casey Niccoli, Perry Farrell's ex-girlfriend and creative partner during Jane's days.
I remember seeing Jane's Addiction in clubs in LA when I was in high school. Usually playing with Primus, Fishbone, Mary's Danish, Thelonius Monster, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.. Great fucking times.
I saw the first Lollapalooza at Irvine Meadows. I went with two girls. We were up on the lawn and I remember thinking that there were a lot of frat guys and different people than the "club days". I told the girls I was going down to the pit for a while. When I got there, I was pissed. All these fucking meat heads were clothes-lining people and punching people in the face as they circled the pit. I told a couple of them what a bunch of douche-bags they were and bailed. Club pits were always cool. Fall down? Someone picked you up and kept you moving.
When MTV started reporting on and showcasing "mosh pits", and having experienced what I did at that first Lollapalooza, I realized that that first Lollapalooza was my own Altamont, and that that was the end of a chapter of good gigs with cool bands and cool people.
I've been to tons of great shows since. But gone were the Palladium, Palace, Roxy, university campuses, random nightly venue changes at clubs and backyard parties of the Jane's Addiction, Primus, Fishbone, Sublime and No Doubt days.
Anyway, here's the link to a cool (somewhat old and occassionally questionably accurate) living history of Jane's Addiction, told by the band and the people around them at the time:
