View Full Version : The lights are out and the candy is gone
Tonight's trick or treaters were pretty good. There were lots of great costumes. A big surprise was the number of younger kids in the neighborhood. Most of the candy scroungers were about 4-5 years old. The last few years, the treaters were older kids... maybe 9-10 or so.
I wasn't sure I was gonna be able to get rid of the candy. I had about 12 pounds of cavity causers. I doubled up on what I was handing out. Just about dark, it started raining like hell; it didn't let up until after dark. Even then, there was a steady mist and occasional drizzle.
I had about 80 kids come by. That's a small number. Usually, there are nearly 200 or so. Maybe the weather kept them and their parents away.
What was cruising through your neighborhood??

I didn't know you Brits gave out cash. Us Americans have been getting off easy with just candy or something.

The wife and I decided we would rather eat burritos in the bathtub than give out candy, so thats what we did and now we have a big ass bowl of candy to ourselves.
BTW, "eat burritos in the bathtub" isn't some sort of euphemism. We often times get take-out food (this time it was Qdoba) and eat it in a bubble bath.

we got a little over 50 kids this year. is it only here or do your kids not even say "trick-or-treat" anymore? they just go to the door and stick out the bag. i remember we had to do something like sing a song or do a talent to get candy. sheesh kids have it easy anymore!
Not really that many kids running around last night,I had the front
porch light off and was chillin in back yard with the wife watching the
fireplace burn....and drank a tad

Even when I was around I didn't see many kids out this year. A few people I know had less than 10 kids come by and they live in the nicer areas too.

Practically all of them used the "trick or treat" greeting. Luckily, here in SC, kids are still expected to say "yes sir, no ma'am, hold doors for others, etc. When I'm traveling around the country, I've noticed that what I used to consider standard public manners are no longer in vogue.

Shit, I want to eat some Qdoba in a bubble bath.
How much cash do they normally give out in the UK? Growing up there was a lady that would give out small bags of pennies, somewhere between 5-10 cents usually.

We got two visits last night of two and three kids each.
Really surprised because we are in a pretty accessible neighborhood I thought we'd have seen lots of kids, but no. :dunno:
I think a lot of them trick or treat at the mall now...that seems to be a trend lately.
But anyway, yeah, we've got bags of candy to hopefully give away at our offices before we eat it all and get huge(r).

Oh and I would have a hard time with any food in the bathtub because as a rule, I literally don't shit where I eat, and it is unusual to find a bathtub not co-located with a toilet.

Two. We got 2 lousy trick or treaters and thats because the people up the street were having a party. Bought 4 lbs of candy since it was our first year at the house and we live in the last house on the cul-de-sac. Yeeeeah. Lame. We did get a TV though. 67" Samsung DLP. Cheap. Does 1080p so we got a lot of tv for our money.

That's a hell of a tv. What size room do you have it in?
You gonna eat the remaining candy all by yourself? If I have leftover candy, I used to dump it in a large bowl on my workdesk. Now, I work from home, so that option is out. The last couple trick or treaters got about 1/2 pound of cavity creeps each.

We have a lot of kids in the family and my b-day piñata for the candy. It won't spoil.
Its in the family room

Its a pretty big room so we went with bigger using older technology rather than spend ~5K on a big ass LED that may or may not be the wave of the future.
The slightly older tech is also a hell of a lot less expensive. Also, the pictures are still very good. The old tv sitting on the floor looks like a portable model compared to the new one.
