I have season tickets to both Dodgers and Angels for my company. I have all post season tickets up to and including the world series (every year).

That being said; I haven't been to an Angels game since 2003 (a pre-season game at that) and it's been since the early 90's since I've been to a Dodger's game.

Yeap, the Yankees are the best team money could buy. However of recent years I don't think they're getting a good return on their investment. I don't keep-up with major leaque baseball that much. Its always struck me more of a particapatory sport than a spectator sport like football. That being said, I feel a little guilty for not watching more of it.

Remember the words "Baseball, Apple Pie, & Chevrolet". None of that means shit now since TV sports really became popular in the 60's. Football is just so much more exciting to watch. I think I'd almost rather play baseball than watch it.

I can say this much about the Yankees, they're to the MLB what the Cowboys (Jerry Jones) are to the NFL. You really can't buy a championship team, at least consistently. I guess that's a good thing cuz excessive $$$$ is destroying all pro sports. :jshizz:

Maybe the word "corrupting" would have been a better word to use! It's not good for the sport, the fans, & even the teams in the long run. Teams aren't going to lose money, just keep jacking up the ticket prices, then the sports agents want more & more for the players & it's a vicious circle.

The NFL had a lid on the "free agent" deal for many years. They also had a Salary Cap that teams were suppose to abide by. But Mr. Money Bags Jerry Jones would break this rule every year in the mid 90's by saying he was borrowing from the next season. That blew shit wide open. The Steelers are one of the stingiest teams in the NFL, but are constantly in the playoffs/Super Bowl. They claim the Networks aren't making money by broadcasting the games now. Example: CBS NFC...then no football. NBC, AFC...then no football. FOX outbids CBS for NFC, Then CBS gets rights to AFC. Then NBC decides it wants football again, but no slots were open. Surprise, surprise....Sunday night football is born. It's not about money now for the Networks, but prestige. Then the NFL stabs them in the back by starting the NFL Channel that broadcasts Thursday's game which they had to invent.

All this is because of the ballooning salaries that players get, which in turn goes back to Jerry Jones breaking the salary caps year after year. You just watch, if salaries keep going up like they have in the last 5 years the only place you'll be able to watch Pro-Football is on the NFL Channel.

This is a very interesting question. If you compare salaries of what players have made over the years with what they make today the disparity is incredible. Magic and Bird "hardly" got paid when they were rookies. But it was just fine for them back then.

I still have my 1973 Rose Bowl ticket stub with a $10 face value. That was for the national championship, USC vs. Ohio State. What would that ticket cost today?

My dad has shared season tickets with business partners since Dodger Stadium opened in 1962. I last got tickets from him in 1999 and gave them to friends. I last went in 1993 v. The Rockies. I remember 1991 I went to a Dodger Pirate game in the thick of the pennant race, before Barry Bonds' body was inflated with steroids. Field level, right between home plate and 1st base, section 20, just under the second deck. Tickets had a $10 face value. I had 4 tickets and 3 people. Sold the other one for $10 and a great seat was enjoyed by an avid fan.

I went to an NBA finals game in 1973 for $10.

In 1980, you could purchase a block of tickets to all potential Lakers playoff games for $160. There ended up being 9 of them.

Of course minimum wage back in 1973 was $1.25 an hour, gas cost 25 cents gallon, and you could rent a 3 bedroom house or apartment for $150 a month or buy a house for under $10K. A Mcdonald's Big Mac cost maybe a quarter.

2 friends of mine paid several hundred dollars to scalpers to see games 6 and 7 of the 2002 World Series. That isn't even counting what they spent to see all the other Angels home playoff games. They still consider it worth it, they can always say they were there for the entire Angels championship run.

I guess it's all relative, and how much do you love and want to support your team. I won't be worried about sports and the prices runing thngs or breaking everything apart until we see a massive reduction in franchises. Some pro sports seem to have tripled in number of teams since I was a kid. NBA used to have 8 or 9 teams now they have 30. MLB had 20 teams, and no divisional series. Win the pennant, play in the world series.


Look up Curt Flood. (baseball, St. Louis Cardinals) His legal case started the free agency trends we see today. If a player can get paid a shitload to jump teams, he will. It's all what the market will pay. Seems to me like sports are doing just fine. Best seats are at home anyway.
