ok folks. what is the deal with firefox??? is it really as great as everyone seems to believe it is?? i just downloaded it and haven't really noticed much different. pleeeeaaaasssseee people give me and anyone else out there an idea of what is so great. and also any special features it might have. thanks

#1 Tabbed browsing. I LOVE tabbed browsing, it rules.

#2 plug-ins. Get adblock, image zoom, Downthemall, and a few others
Adblock RULES for a lot of purposes, image zoom can be useful or fun, Down Them All helps for downloading galleries

#3 Invisible: security is MUCH better than IE, much harder to get unwanted stuff on to your computer

#4 Popup blocking that works really well.

If you've got FireFox, get the StumbleUpon extension as well, pretty good for when you're bored, as it gives you random cool sites.

And get Spoofstick, it shows you the domain you're on, so it's harder to get fooled by phishing sites. (There's a version for IE too).

I avoid firefox... I've ran into too many "small" instances where firefox just doesn't display the page as designed, or small functions don't work. There are some advantages (plugins, tabbed browsing), but I prefer the built in look/feel from internet explorer. Plus, since like 90% of the world uses IE, most sites are designed specifically for it (firefox is designed to duplicate IE in terms of compatibility, but is not 100%).

It's like the windows/linux thing- Sure linux has some far superior features. However, until a majority of the world switches to linux, most things are going to be designed with windows in mind, and it will be more work to use it on linux.

Like everyone has said tabbed browsing is awesome, and its not that hard to switch to IE real quick when a site doesnt show right, but my biggest complaint is that i lose my bookmarks every now and then, i know how to back them up but its still annoying, and probably wont effect most people.

you lose bookmarks while switching browsers? or firefox mysteriously loses them? Ive never had the latter problem...?

I highly recommend the All-in-one gestures extension. You can set your mouse to command a lot of the browser functions (like back, forward, reload, etc.)

The reason why some sights don't look or act right in FF is because of M$ and IE and their own set of rules for building websites.
And because, as you put it, 90% of the world uses IE that also makes it easier for the bad guys to use that to make new ways to get spyware and viruses into your system while browsing the net and not no it's coming to you.

Because of M$ and Billy boy's Borg like tactics to computer world is the same reason why 90%+/- of the software and hardware is made sololy for Windows.

And if you prefer Linux, then I don't see why you would avoid FF. Most, if not all, of the web browsers made to run under Linux are based on the Mozilla open source code.

i just got All-in-one gestures extension and image zoom. just dunno how to use them lol can anyone explain a lil bit?

Image Zoom is simple enough.
Right-click on an image and look for the option of Zoom Image which has a sub menu.
If you to to Tools->Extensions, select Image Zoom and click the Options button you can add more options to the Zoom Image sub menu, plus you can turn on the right-click+scroll to zoom the image in or out.

Mouse gestures, I don't use so I can't help you with that

The main reason I use FF, is for security reasons. FF does not attract hackers like IE. Every hacker out there is always trying to figure out how to rain on B. Gates' money parade, IE. Also, FF has a full screen mode which I use regularly when visiting this site.
