I am about to transfer to California from Arizona and have a couple of weapons that are not allowed due to their outrageous number of gun laws. Obviously my class 3 weapons and Hi cap mags can't go, but there are a few items that I really want to take that I don't know everything I need to do to take them. So in case I miss something, I figure I'll just list the ones that I want to take and maybe you guys can give me some insight to how I need to modify them, If I do or can at all.
so....
M1A Loaded (Post 1995 so there is no bayonet lug)
M1A Socom 16
Savage R-700 Short Action style (plate hinge, not detachable mag)
Romanian WASR-10
VTAC M&P15
1939 Mosin-Nagant Carbine (Complete with folding bayonet)
FN 5.7
Glock 23
S&W 4006
Taurus PT1911
Any help would be appriciated.

Can't help you much here. The laws here are what they are, and no one really listens to them. As long as some of the weapons were bought before a certain date, I think they are grandfathered in. Also, at the gun shows, a lot of people pick up high cap mags, and go around the restriction. I would just bring them here and try not to get pulled over.
Supersatch, I take it you're in the military. If so, you may want to investigate California weapons laws before you transfer some of your weapons across state lines. I have a feeling several of the long guns don't meet Cali requirements. I'd hate to see you get some type of military disciplinary action for a state weapons violation. Also, I hear you're station in Arizona. If so, your MOS may be very lucrative in the civilian world. If so, a weapons charge could be damaging to your later civilian career.
Some situations present unique predicaments. Several times, I've offered to store JoeRockHeads super nice '67 Camaro so the car will not be exposed to snow, ice, and the accompanying road salt. So far, he refuses to turn over the keys to me. In the event you decide not to transport your weapons across the Cali state line, I offer my gun safe (in gun friendly South Carolina) for your use. I promise to occasionally exercise the weapons and will clean and oil them (but not overly oil) after use.
Just sayin... :)

I suggest you contact a practicing lawyer licensed in the state of California.

Thanks FMB, but I'd like to keep my rifles at least on the same coast as I am. I'll keep you in mind though if I happen to end up in D.C. (I could imagine the fun you would have with Joe's Camaro and my guns!) You are right though. I am in the military in a particularly lucrative job. I'm avoiding anything that can get me into trouble. At the moment I'm still looking for a Military by-law that can just let me walk in, but it's looking bleak.
I'm gonna have to get with the CAPD and the JAG cats and see what they can come up with. I know I'm not the first person transfering to Cali who has brought up these questions. Juan did bring up a good point though. How do the CAPD tell which hi-cap mags are preban if they aren't serialized? All of my weapons were bought in AZ where there is no registration. If I walked into Cali with them could they even be able to tell the difference?
Mags may not be an issue; however, the firearm itself could be. I think Cali banned practically all ownership of some weapons. Those purchased prior to the law may be exempt, but yours would be coming into the state much later than the law was passed.
If you're transferred to DC, I suggest residing in a community outside the DC limits. Those DC jokers have absolutely no sense of humor when it comes to firearms. Definitely talk with the JAG folks before you transfer!!
If firearm storage in SC becomes an option, your weapons are only a five hour flight away. Also, I have a free, public shooting range about 30 minutes away. The only access requirement is to police your brass.

Yeah, the DC guys are worse than Cali. I think that they just passed handgun ownership though. Always a plus. I've been thinking about slimming down my numbers of guns anyway. It's just a problem though that all of the guns that I want to keep are the ones that aren't cali legal. It's the slotted flash suppressors that is doing me under right now. I need to switch them out for drilled muzzle compensators so everyone in Cali can be soooo much safer.
Thanks Krasch. I'm kind of an impulse buyer when it comes to guns. Here's a pic of me and my favorite just for you.

Nice. Were it an ideal world, I'd get me a nice MP5 and a Barrett 82a1 (a gun to really let you reach out and touch someone) to shoot targets, and maybe a Desert Eagle too...

Sounds good. It'll be like one of those 1970's "freedom of the Road" movies. Except, no hot trailer-trash woman to hit on. I'm open to let anyone shoot with me. Just bring ammo. However, in your case, I'll barter for time behind the wheel.
Just so you know Krasch, that Barret .50BMG is sitting in my local gun store right now. It's only $8,500. You want me to tell them that you're coming?
So unfortunately I'm starting to slim down the inventory. I already have a buyer for the Vtac AR. I'm getting a really good sell out of it since it's going with the supressor can and EOTech holosight. I think the WASR-10 is going next since the mods are gonna be more than I paid for the rifle. I'm gonna keep the M1A's and the FN 5.7 no matter what happens. Those are my babies. I'm not seeing a problem with the rest of them minus the bayonet fixed to the Mosin Nagant.

It'd be worth the money to buy it and drive down there if I could actually get to own such a beauty up here... I'd have a serious warm gooey moment just handing over the cash and picking it up.
Siad it before, damn Canadian gun laws #@%@$^@@!
