Ok, Getting started (Before you ask, DAVE = DTV )
1- Equipment: Now here there are as many choices as there are viewers. You can buy any receiver out there and make it work (or at least almost all). But, from my experience, Hughes receivers are a hackers nightmare, so I would stay away. Your choice will also be influenced by your budget and what you want to do with it. In any case, I would subscribe to a minimum package with Dave if possible (I’ll explain after) and buy the system that best suits your needs. As for the dish, well most of them now permit you to hook up two receivers or you can get an oval dish that with permit 4 and more, while adding some stations including Spanish and high definition. You can also get a used system with an H card in the ''for sale'' section that has other advantages offered by H card (see below)
2- Cards: basically there are two active cards out there and maybe soon three. The two active ones are H cards and HU cards. The H card has a satellite picture on it and the HU has a football player on it. The H card is by far the best card to learn with. Why? Because it's been hacked in every way possible and there isn't much you can do to it that isn't ''fixable''. If it gets looped (meaning software is basically running around in circles and stops the card from working), it can be UNlooped without a problem with proper hardware/software. As for HU cards, the ability to unloop them is still reserved to a small group of people but should see light in the near future. As for now though, a looped HU is a dead HU. Both cards can be programmed to receive free TV. You will also hear about Black Sunday H cards (BS), this term describes H cards that were in the stream on that fatal H card Sunday two years back. The eeprom was damaged by an ECM (killer program sent by Dave) and now only work with a bootloader (Plastic credit card circuit board where you insert your card and then insert board in receiver). The blank cards (white cards) are NOT programmable in order to get DTV. They lack ''ASIC'' which is an essential part of a Dave card and therefore are unusable for our purposes.
3- Loaders/all-in-ones, ISO programmers, unloopers........ : An Iso programmer is used to program H cards and BS H cards. However, it does not permit you to unloop an H card. So, if you plan on programming H cards, you should have an UNLOOPER handy. This device will unloop H cards ONLY. If your card should be software looped, you can fix it with this device. A loader is a device used to load script on HU cards. I won't go too far on this one since all-in-ones are a lot more practical and loaders are now left behind due to the coming of all-in-ones. All-in-one loaders are pretty much what their name says. They are used to load scripts on Hu cards, H cards and BS H cards (also called phoenix mode). They can be use as unloopers to unloop H cards (not HU). Some models (4-in-one) can be use as ISO programmers too. Do not buy cheap all-in-ones. The number of cards you will loop will soon outway the 30 or 50 bucks you saved. As a newbie, you should buy a simple all-in-one with no switches to ajust, just flash and go.
4- Software: This is a list of current software used to program H and HU's as well as practical utilities. Now this is just a very small list of all those available and will get you started.
H cards- BasicH3.3, winexplorer4.6, loader1.1, turbounloop1.1, KK (flash utility for H and HU's)
HU's- Start with Extremehu1.6 and 1.74 update.
You will learn all kinds of new stuff as you go along so start with the basics and master them well before trying ''new'' stuff.
5- Scripts..........bins........images.....hex..and so on. : I won't go too far on this subject since it can make this post way to long but... An important thing to know around know is what a bin is. The bin, in very simple terms, is the heart of your card. A bin can be virgin or have script on it, depending when it was saved. They always tell you, save your original bin. Why? Because when you program your card and put it in receiver, you corrupt or may corrupt the heart of your card. Now if this were to happen, if you read and saved your card as it was before, you can reload it and bring it back to what it once was. So, ALWAYS save your original bin before doing anything. The reason I said above to subscribe if you can, is that if you do, you will have a valid subscribed bin, it will make your life a LOT easier to program your card and in most cases, keep it up a lot longer. You can also get it of a relative or friends card if you can't or do not want to subscribe. In all these cases, do not spread it around, give it to people or worse...put it on the net. Your bin will be as good as dead before you have time to even know what happened.
As for rest, read up, read again and read some more! There are all kinds of guides on this site to help you and learn to use the search button on top. Just because you can't see a certain subject, doesn't mean it's not there, do a search and you may be surprised at all the info you will get..
My first time…………..programming a card.
Well I actually had fun doing the other post so I figured I’d give it another shot. So this would be getting started for Newbies part II. Again, this is just the basics. If after you read and done all the steps here, and you actually get a picture on your TV screen, it’s a victory, even if it only last 1 minute. So be patient and remember Rome was not built in a day.
Ok you got all the cool stuff we talked about in first post, satellite receiver, card, dish, all-in-one, programs…etc…etc…
Make sure all programs are unzipped and ready to go. Now stop and take a minute to look at them with nothing plugged in. See what’s in the different tabs on top of each program even if you have no idea what they do, at least you will know you saw it somewhere.
THE H CARD
Using an ISO programmer. (This will work for H cards and Black Sunday H cards)
Ok you’ve got your ISO programmer in your hand and you are saying to yourself….hummm… Start by plugging in power supply and COM port (try to stay with com1 or com2). Open BasicH3.3. Under config tab on top, make sure you are set to right COM port. Under Config tab, click user mode, then expert. A few more icons will appear. Ok insert your H card (DO NOT DO THIS WITH HU’S!) in programmer, if it’s a Black Sunday H card, put it in a bootloader and then insert bootloader in programmer. On top, there’s a little camera, click on it. The programmer should reset and look at your card and then will give you a screen with information on it about your card. If you get reset failed, it can be many things, check the COM port you are using, change if necessary. Card may be looped (will talk about that next paragraph) or you are trying to read a Black Sunday card without bootloader. (It can be a few other things, but that’s where you go to the newbie section and post your problem). If all went well, you just had your first experience of actually reading a card. Once done, you have two doors on top of menu, one open, one closed. Click on open door. This should open the ‘’porthole’’ to the brain of your card, AKA E3 hole. Now, under eeprom, click read eeprom. This will do a deep read of the brain of your card and put it on your screen. Now save that bin. That’s your original bin. Do not pass GO without saving your bin first.
GO
Ok, you have your original bin saved. You want to clean your card of all previous script if any. So, now click on tab written CARD, then one step clean, then clean to 26 updates. Let it finish. Now click on read card again and wait for it to finish. You now have a clean virgin card and got its eeprom dump. That’s all nice but you need something to put on your card in order to get free TV. As a Newbie, I suggest you go to the new file section and get a working file, or ask someone you know to help with that if possible. Here an example of a safe file that has been hashed but will work for a little while, enough for you to see if you did things right. Download this somewhere you will find it easily http://www.dssfilexchange.com/files78/patriot-67w.zip . At this point you should have the eeprom dump on your screen. If not, there are three tabs on right side of screen. Cam info is the information on your card, eeprom file is the script that was read or opened, and eeprom file is the result you will have if you apply it to card. Ok, now we will apply an image to the card. An image may or may not clone your card. If you have a winked receiver (5th generation, made after dec.2000) you will need to do an extra step that WILL clone your card.
If your receiver is not winked go to step 2, if it is, continue here.
1- Click on expert, then patch image with wildthing file. A box will open and you will see the file H_CAMnZKT_000208331843.IMG. This will clone your card with a HU card ID so you can fool your receiver in thinking it has an HU card in it. Click open and this should take the time of a blink. If you click on eeprom file info, it should have an HU card number there now. Now go to step 2.
2- Click on expert, then patch image with wildthing file. A box should open and you will see the file ‘’Patriot67-east.img’’. Click on it then open. You now just patched a script to your original bin or if you went through step one, the HU cam you had applied.
3- Now you created the eeprom file and you now have to apply it to your card. You will notice there’s a lightning bolt on the top of your screen, make sure H card is in place and click on it. This will write the eeprom image you have created to your card.
4- ****Important****Now click on closed door to close E3 hole.
5- Reset your receiver and see if you get TV. (This may not last long but I’m just getting you started.)
If you get ’’wrong access card message’’, it may be because the script you applied is married to another receiver. Go to basicH, open door, then click on broken lock, and then click on closed door. Reset receiver again and it should be solved.
If you get ‘’card incompatible’’ message, you have a winked receiver and need to do step one before doing step 2.
That was the long way so you can learn the basics. I figure if you try the easy way first, you will learn next to nothing.
Ok now clean your card to 26 updates, you should know how to do that now. (Open E3, clean to 26)
Now open patriot67-w, if it doesn’t have a little dish picture on it, stop. Open winex4.6 folder and click on little satellite, click on folder, open and go back to patriot67-w file and open it. A winexplorer4.6 window is now open. Click on configure, then program parameters. Make sure it’s set to DSS P2 (H) setting and it is on correct COM port. Now go to tab written CARD, then click on execute script. It will ask you your time zone, zip code and guide (stay with normal guide for now). It will also ask you if you want to put a HU cam ID on your card. Remember we talked about that earlier, it’s for people with 5th generation receivers. Say yes or no. Then it should be doing all the work we did before for you. Once finished, take card out of programmer, reset receiver and put card in. wait a bit, it should get an image.
That’s the Basics for Programmers. Now there’s a lot more you can do with these devices, but like I said earlier, I’m sticking to the meat and potatoes.
UNLOOPER and ALL-IN-ONES (H CARDS)
First off, if you have a Black Sunday card, you do not use bootstrap with these devices. You put card straight in.
There are two variables here. If you are using an unloopers, no flash is needed it should be pre-flashed. If you are using an all-in-one, you may need to flash it in order for it to work. You should have downloaded KK flash utility if you are using an all-in-one. If you own an unloopers skip to part 2.
1- ***Important***, if you have no switches on your all-in-one, continue. If you do, find out what switches have to be set in order to flash it correctly. If If it has no switches or you now know the correct switch setting, Open KK utility, and click on SU2. A black box will appear and tell what it is doing. DO not disturb this process until finished. Your all-in-one is now flashed for H cards.
2- Now, open Loader1.1 and click on program parameters, then make sure you are set to UNLOOPER (same for all-in-ones or unloopers) and set to correct com port.
3- Now click CARD, and then execute script.
4- Click on ‘’next page’’ button then ‘’card info’’. This will give you information about your card. It will tell you it’s a Black Sunday card or not, if it’s looped or not, etc..Etc.
5- If it tells you it is looped continue here, if not go to 6. Click back button and unloop card button and wait. It should fix problem.
6- Click on ‘’read card’’ and save it in a safe place in .bin format. That’s your original bin.
7- Now click ‘’on next page’’ button, then ‘’clean to 67’’.
8- Now you have a clean virgin card. If you have a 5th gen. Receiver go to 11 if not continue to next line.
9- Now click ‘’write bin/img’’, when window opens to know what file you want to write, make sure it says .img and not .bin at bottom as file type. Go to where you put patriot folder and open ‘’Patriot67-east.img’’. This will write it to card.
10- You can now reset receiver and put card in.
11- Ok, the problem here is you cannot always write two images one over the other, it depends on numerous factors in the script. But in this case we can. Click’’write bin/.img’’ and find the file called H_CAMnZKT_000208331843.IMG and open it. This will change your card’s ID to a HU cam. Now go back to line 9.
You now can watch TV for a few minutes until it start freezing. Why? Because this is not a valid script. When you get your hand on a valid script, it will rid you of freezing problem. If you get a customer service message, it may be that the .bin on your card has been blacklisted. Try to find a subscribed or not blacklisted bin. You do as above, you apply it as if you had a 5th gen receiver except you write the valid .bin file before the img. File. You can read and save the .bin from another card, then write it to yours. It’s that simple. If you need an HU cam id, open extremehu, then click on folder to open a previously saved Hu cam bin from a valid card (subbed or not blacklisted), then click on on eeprom, then cam/zkt/key tools, then store cam/zkt for h card (save it where you can find it). You now have an hu card id that you can write with loader 1.1 to your card before applying script.
THE HU CARD
Now I am 100% sure that some people jumped to this line. Big mistake. Even if you do not have an H card, you should have read the above to know how some things work. But hey, it’s your loss.
You are the proud owner of a new all-in-one. Great!. The only question is how to use it. Well things get a little more complicated here. See, there are about 14 gazillion models cloned one from another, cheap, expensive and some better than others. Now, some have switches and some don’t. I strongly suggest you inquire about what the switches do before proceeding here. I haven’t worked with models that have switches since mine doesn’t have any; so don’t ask me about them. If you have a virgin card, put it in receiver at channel 100 for at least 6 hours before continuing.
Ok, let’s get started. You must plug your all-in-one to a COM port, (I suggest com1 or com2 if possible), You should have a power adapter connected to your all-in-one. A variable voltage adapter is the best way to go and should be adjusted to 6 ,7.5 or 9volts (try different voltages to find the one that works best with your all-in-one). Ok you are plugged in and connected to your computer. Open KK flash utility and flash it with cardmasterHU. Wait for it to finish. If you get device not detected, change COM port. Once that’s done go to extremehu folder that you already opened before and should have looked at (If you followed directions). If not unzip 1.6 version then unzip 1.74 version in same folder, then open it. Under file tab, go to settings and make sure it is set to right COM port. It should say ‘’comX : ready and device detected’’ at bottom of extremehu main window. You will now go to CARD tab and then click ‘’Check card info’’, CARD should NOT be in all-in-one. Ok, screen will change and will prompt you to insert card. Make sure that it says on top of blue box ; atmel version = 5.0. If so, put card in.
You now have an overview of your card. Check ATR. This is VERY important, the forth byte should read 25. ( XX XX XX 25 XX XX XX…..) If not, ask advice before touching it. If nothing appear except ATR= FF or ATR = 00 your card is looped, leave it aside for a while. If everything is ok, continue on, but check card after every step of the way using green check mark. Now you want to save your original bin. Remember we talked about that. Read the whole paragraph before starting. Go to CARD tab, then READ CARD. Answer yes and yes again. The all-in-one will begin to glitch. Glitching is the process where the device is trying to get into the card. There’s a line that will indicate number of attempts. DO NOT OVERGLITCH CARD, STOP AT 20 ATTEMPS, then try again if it didn’t work. If the ATR changes while glitching to 00, stop immediately. If all went well, it will say bootstrap loaded and will read your cards eeprom. Now you want to save your original bin in a safe place for later use. So click on Save as, and save it in .bin format. Now the fun part. There are some scripts that clone your card (change your card id number to another and some that don’t). There are activation scripts and 3m’s. Hex files and more. I will stick to the basics. This file will clone your card but since you backed up your original bin, you can bring back to what it was. Download this file http://www.dssfilexchange.com/files78/hufix1.8.zip Unzip it somewhere you will easily find it. This is an extreme HEX file and will clone your card. This script has also been hashed but will give you an idea of the process. You should always clean card before doing anything until you really know what you are doing. So at this point, click Card tab, then Clean card. You should keep an eye on your ATR at all time, again, not more than 20 attempts and check card info (or green check mark) after every step. Ok your card is clean. Now if ATR is OK, click on card, then write, then extreme HEX. Find 1.8 file you just unzipped. Click on it. It will tell you it’s going to clone your card, say yes, and yes again. Watch ATR!. Once finished, Check card again. Check if there’s an Ird number, if not 0000000 click on Card, then utilities, then clear ird, then unmarry. This will remove receiver so you can put it in yours. If everything seems fine, continue. Reset receiver and put card in. You may get picture for short while, but like I said, this is not a valid hex file. This was just to show you how to apply a hex file.
This is an activation file, with activation files, the main difference is you must pretend to purchase PPV on your receiver in order to watch them + once you get the hang of if, you can add the stations you want. It is known to be ‘’safer’’ for your card. Download http://www.dssfilexchange.com/files78/HUact1.12.zip . This file is an activation file in .bin format. Now your card should be clean before you apply, this as shown above. Card, then Clean card, check card info. Now open little folder in left hand corner of screen and find huact1.12.bin. open it. It will appear in right hand side of screen. So if you want to change zip or time zone, now’s your chance. If you see a number other than 00000000 in ird number box, go to eeprom, clear ird, then unmarry. Ok, now you want to write this to your card. Go to CARD, then click write, then current eeprom. Check ATR as it glitches. Once finished, click check card info. Make sure all is OK. Now reset IRD and put it in. It may work for a few minutes, but this is just to learn.
You have now seen the basics of Programming. This is but the tip of the iceberg! I hope this will help people getting started. I didn’t want to make experts out of you, just wanted to walk the first mile with training wheels and at this point, I let you go. GOOD LUCK!

GOOD LUCK!
