If anyone is interested in a cruise on the Rio Negro, a friend of mine owns a boat (20m motor yacht, I think he calls it). The boat moors near Manaus and it has aircon cabins with ensuite shower/toilet.

His customers are frequently fishermen, sometimes TV crews use the boat for filming the rainforest and biology students from the USA recently started hiring the boat for field trips.

A group can hire the whole boat, or individuals can fill spaces where a group has only part booked the cabins.

It costs about $150 per day but this includes all your meals.

Are you saying chartering the boat is $150/day (US$?) or the price is $150 per person? If it's per person, how long is the stay?

It is per person per day. About the same price as an expensive hotel in Manaus. The trip can be as long or as short as you like, but most trips are around 7-10 days.

The main expense for the operator is the diesel, so sometimes a short trip (in distance) can be cheaper. Also, if a large group books the boat, the price per person can be reduced.
