The Dangers of Web-based Threats

Visiting web pages can be risky! The most dangerous page on the web may be the one you are about to click on. These days, it's not only viruses that can harm your computer. Online criminals can potentially take control of any webpage and infiltrate your computer. Web-based threats like exploits, phishing, and social engineering can corrupt your computer, steal your identity or make your computer part of a "bot" network.
There are several companies that provide add-ons for your Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. These add-ons are additional security in conjunction with your usual firewall, antivirus, and spyware/adware/malware software.
These browser add-ons rate web sites/pages; I have tried all the following web site/url rating software and currently have two on all my computers. If you land on a dangerous site or a web page with a bad reputation, this software is suppose to warn you.
I am not recommending one over another because every computer out there is different and everyone uses different software, and you my have software which conflicts with any of these add-ons. Because I find this kind of software very useful, I thought I would provide the information I have gathered in the hopes that someone else might want to use it. At the end of each add-on description I am providing a link to the software web site plus a link to the CNET DOWNLOAD site so you can compare ratings. Have Fun.

AVG LINKSCANNER
AVG LinkScanner provides an advanced layer of security against fast-moving, invisible web threats, and hacked web sites. It verifies the safety of web pages you visit, and of links returned from web searches (Google, Yahoo! and MSN), so you know how safe/unsafe a page is at the time you attempt to click on it. It works alongside most current consumer AV and security suite products, delivering an additional layer of security they do not provide. It will not slow your system down. It begins protecting you immediately. Highlights - Real-time scanning of links you click on, so you can be sure you are protected from the latest hacked or exploited websites. Emphasis on analysis of each web page you visit instead of the web site. Automatic upgrades whenever the threat intelligence network finds a new threat.
