I've had my directv/tivo box for more than a year now, and its acting up. I'm curious if there is a setting I can change to stop tivo from doing the following scenario.

Scenario: I'm watching tuner 1, not live, but delayed for 15 min so i can skip commercials. meanwhile tuner 2 starts recording a show, it's something tivo recommends. fine. but lets say after 5 min, one of the shows I want to record is about to start. So I get the tuner flip warning screen. I am faced with either watching the show thats on, or cancelling the new recording. (what would be REALLY nice, is that tivo doesn't pick to record a suggestion when I am actively watching a show. ) So, I cancel the recording, flip tuners, change that channel to the channel with the show I just cancelled, and select record once that show starts.

The other thing tivo does is start recording suggetions on channels that I don't receive. So add to the above scenario that while tivo is not actually recording that movie on Encore/West, it's asking me to choose between the college football i'm watching and "Bound" on Sundance that i scheduled it to tape.

I don't want to turn off Tivo suggestions, since after a year, tivo doesn't think I'm a kid, spanish, gay, or elderly anymore. Now I wake up to find a couple of "g-sting divas" episodes waiting at the bottom of my now playing list. but besides turning off suggestions entirely, i don't know what else can stop tivo from doing either of the above things.

any ideas/suggestions?

wow, it only took 9 months for you to get a response. the easiest way for you to solve your problem is this...
currently, you are watching a show on tuner 1 (on 15 min delay to allow you to skip commercials) while tuner 2 is recording a tivo suggestion.
instead of tuning to the channel on tuner 1 from the channel guide, go to the "now playing" list and pick the show you want to watch (which is also being recorded on tuner 1). when you do this, you'll be watching the show from your hard drive and not tuner 1...so the tivo will record YOUR show on tuner 1, while recording the suggestion on tuner 2...and when another show is scheduled to record, tuner two won't record a suggestion.
you'll be recording from each of the 2 tuners AND you'll be watching from the hd.

Hi newbie, here but I used to be a dtv tech support supervisor (just to give you some credentials). Unfortunately the at this time the only way to prevent the recorder from creating the situation that you just described is to turn off the TiVo Suggestions. This can be inconvenient if you actually like having random things recorded, but I find that just set up multiple season passes based on actor, director, genre, or theme will accomplish the same thing without the problem of recording channels that you do not receive. DTV has been trying to work with TiVo for a correction on the issue of Suggestions recording programming that you do not actually recieve but they haven't been very successfull yet. Hopefully the new R15 with not have this problem. Also, I have been told that the new version 6 software--while not actully fixing completely--does reduce the number of blank (Ext. 721, 73x) programs that the dvr records. Hope that you enjoy the box!
