View Full Version : Happy New Year

I don't think we had an official new years thread, so this will do.

So what's everyone been up to? Any resolutions? New toys? Additions to the family? Travel plans? Changes in your love life?

Here's the cliffs as far as I go...I been working a lot trying to close out last years change orders for the bridge we're widening. Side work is down to basically nothing. No real new years resolutions other than get my ass back down to a decent weight and try not to eat junk food...harder when I'm smoking so I know I gotta cut back on that as well as drink less. No new toys, but I did manage to turn the quad upside down this weekend. Took a turn too quick and tried to counter it by shifting my weight, missed the peg and down I went. No damage since I fell on a sand bed and the quad is fine other than a fastener on the rear fender breaking off. Travel plans are the same...mex for 2 weeks in mid Feb...do the carnaval thing, then beaches and small town exploring. As far as love goes, same old shit. Finally put my foot down and told the messiken that her and I can't keep doing this. She's blowing up my cell phone and I try my best to ignore her. Sucks if she becomes enraged, which is kinda happening since no woman likes to be ignored, and should be interesting to see her reactions when we go down there...but fuck her if she can't take a joke. Other women that I mess with kind of stopped texting and calling me with exception to one girl I used to mess with that moved in with her man and now is living back at home.

So...how YOU doin?

Work is slow, Queso's car got robbed, I bought a gun, going down to Bako in a few months, and I quit smoking.

Me? I just returned from Detroit. I made the trip to get my son back to his mom and get ready for school. My GF and I are still together and doing very well. Over the holidays, we held many dinners and get togethers at the house. I think everyone had a great time.

I started my "get the fat off fmb" program today. I'll start with some walking and move into running later.

I plan on fixing up my old Ranger truck. A new interior, paint, and some wheels. She has been faithful and could use a nip and tuck here and there.

I had a chick be a big bitch to me between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so still single. Shocking, I know. Work is slow. School starts up next week. This time next year I'll have graduated.

Ordered a Blu Ray player last night, pop in Dark Knight, Wall-E and Speed Racer when that arrives

Um, according to the fortune teller I should start the year with not much cash (true enough!) but there will be some monumental change that will happen in the spring, it will change me so much that it will be as if I were reborn (maybe this is a sex change???) and by year's end some middle-aged dude will be giving me some cash. So any middle aged dudes out there... better start saving up. You have a full year. :)

Not really a resolution since I started this before New Year's: I want to look decent in a bikini by the time Mex rolls around so that's about 6 weeks. HOLY COW. Hopefully it happens. I also hope that Juan's mexichicks (that's right... plural!!) do not beat me to a pulp. I am still trying to get Juan to teach me how to say "We are not fucking!" in spanish but so far no go.

I also hope to go to Puerto Rico, Chicago and, depending on how much I get back in tax refunds, Cuba.

I am not really sure what I want out of this year. I guess working on my fitness, steady paycheque (yes I threw a U in there you're welcome!), some traveling and some good food. That's all I really need. :)

I wanted something compact so that I could conceal it easy, and that queso could learn to handle. Pretty ironic her car gets broken into 12 hours after I buy the pistol. It's too bad I didn't have it there with me to catch the fucking tweekers in the act.

mon, you can get cubans at the duty free store and in mexico pretty cheaply.

Good choice on the gun, mstad. Taurus makes some attractive bigger pistols. I wasn't too into the compact, but for your intended use, it looks good.

You got a CCW or you just gonna be gangsta?

As far as resolutions... I tend to steer clear of personal mandates and edicts. I work on loose guidelines the best :yamon:

That being said, here are some things I'd like to give more of an audience to in the coming year:

- my 9 month old daughter is finally starting swim lessons this week. I'd like her to feel comfortable in the H2O by the summer.

- my 3.5 year old is a killer swimmer. Starting karate this week. We joined the Long Beach Yacht Club, so I want him in the youth group that does water events (swim meets, boating, etc.).

- I was made Chairman of the California Trucking Associations' Steering and Planning Committee. So I want to take the association to a level of political and regulatory authority that it once had, and exceed everything that came before it.

- I lost 45 pounds last year. So I want to get my shortboard surfing back on game. We're going to Bali in November for a wedding, so I want to be comfortable on at least two sleds (surfboards) and really be at a level so that I can enjoy Bali's surf with as little intimidation as possible.

All in all, I want to strive for balance in my professional, personal and spiritual life (I'm buddhist, for all those wondering what I mean by spiritual). That's not an easy thing to do, but it's essential to happiness.

Gonna get my conceal carry permit here in the next few weeks. I leave a bar late at night with cash on me 4 nights a week, and at the bar I work at is where somebody had the balls to break into queso's car right in front of the door and steal the stereo and intake. So from now on, I leave the bar armed.

Shit man, we're almost in the same boat. I leave the bar with cash four nights a week, and have been seriously eyeing the Taurus 24/7 pro 9mm ever since I got my CCW! Problem is carrying on the job...since you can't carry in a bar, what's your plan - stow it somewhere outside (bad idea), under the bar (bad idea), carry it anyway (bad idea)?? I'm curious, because I need to figure out something as well.

Cheers nig.

I lock it up in the safe when I'm at work. End of the night as I drop cash in the safe, I grab the pistol and it goes in my pocket, or into an ankle holster as soon as I get one.

That Taurus 24/7 is pretty nice, Graffin's got one. Beats the hell out of his Stallard Arms 9mm he had before. I swear that fucking thing was made out of cast iron, and had a shot grouping like a 12 gauge.

I'm glad you signed him up for karate lessons. He's gonna catch hell on the playground...

Guys, think about where you carry your pistol; pockets just aren't that great of a place to have your protection when you need it. Getting the weapon out of your pocket and on target takes time. In this case, time is your enemy.

I've carried for quite awhile in my work; personally, I suggest a holster. Your weapon is quickly and easily brought to bear (at least in comparison to the pocket). Also, practice, practice, practice; especially drawing the weapon from wherever you have it placed.

I was being facetious.

I have a number of guns myself. .45 pistol, .243 rifle, 20 gauge shotgun. Those are my personal ones. My dad basically has everything under the sun (hunting mostly). My brother in law is a gun freak. He's into the military style weaponry and does desert trips with friends to go all Waco on shit.

Guns are fun as hell. I have found, over the years, that most of the people that have a problem with guns are the people that have never really been around them! All they see are the few examples of dipshits mishandling and misusing them.

I actually have a gun safe in my office, about 8 feet from my desk. I have posted pics of my office before. I'm not going to go searching for them. But if someone finds them, the safe is the tall green monolith in the far left corner. It's my dad's safe, but I have my stuff in there too.

Why my office? It's our union contingency plan

I'm gonna get a holster for it, but until I get my CCW I'm not too worried about having a holster to illegally conceal it. For now it's in my coat pocket as I leave the bar, which is very convenient for me should I have a crackhead waiting outside for me wanting me to get my "money" out of my pocket.

Knowledge of firearm use and proper safety goes a long way. Most people tend to fear what they don't understand, especially when it comes to guns.

Good points, mstad!

Thanks for the clarification. A coat pocket is much better than a pants pocket; I thought pants were your intended firearms destination.

And niggers.

Sorry. I forgot to add: "dipshits mishandling and misusing them, AND niggers."

How the fuck could I forget about the niggers? Nazi Power would kill me for leaving them out.
