Does it seem to you that America's efforts for Political Correctness have gone to far? Can we expected a backlash from people's frustration with being PC?
I think PC is backward and I don't like it. To me, PC doesn't allow me to know what you think or where you stand on issues.
I am concerned when PC issues seem to override society's sensebilities about what they should or should not speak out about or against.

America went too PC long long ago.
There should be nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade so to speak. If someone is truly offended by a comment it's because they feel it applies to them in some manner, not because of how the comment is worded. And trying not to offend anyone just ends up offending everyone.

I have to agree with this. It has gotten so bad though recently. It's a shame that in America, that free speech is under attack, because certain people get butt-sore over EVERYTHING that is said.

I think the over PC issue is almost like a snowball. There are some people out there who are enabled by the "PC" atmosphere and basically wake up with the intention of getting offended by somebody or something, to which they can later complain about. The christmas tree in my office was removed today because some fuck stick was "offended" by it. I promptly hung a sign in the trees place that said I was offended by the fact that you were offended. We'll see how this goes.

I also agree. I actually know people like this, people who will choose to twist anything you say as some insult to them. Kinda like Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder "What do you mean? YOU PEOPLE..."

What also is a problem is you are never sure what is PC today. I recently discovered that when referring to a person of Chinese ancestry that the term "Oriental" is now not PC. Apparently they are "Asian" but not "Oriental". Apparently people from India are now "Asian" and not "Indian".

The reason this is even sold, is because fuck-sticks out there get offended when someone says "Merry Christmas". Well if you don't believe in Christmas, get over it and just be appreciative of the well wishes! It certainly is a lot better to hear then "Eat shit".

Agreed. Political Correctness (or Douchebaggery as I like to call it) has bred a generation of people who think they have some sort of right to remain unoffended at all times. This is despite the fact that the very first Amendment to the Constitution establishes the exact opposite as national policy.
I think this is grounded, at least in part, by the fact that the government DOES have to watch certain things. Many religious holiday displays DO imply goverment endorsement of religion which is also prohibited by the First Amendment. I think this has been misinterpreted as a right to not be offended which spilled over into other areas and even into the private sector.
My solution involves an expanded high school civics program which includes in depth analysis of the Bill of Rights and the reasoning behind each Amendment.

Well, India is part of the Asian continent so it follows that they would be Asian, too, right? Doesn't mean they're no longer Indian, though. One of my pet peeves is when people think that "Asian" = Japanese or Chinese only.
I personally wouldn't be offended if someone started calling me Oriental but I would probably tell that person that he is using the wrong term. I'll assume that this is due to ignorance, not intent to offend. However, if that person continues to call me Oriental then, yes, I'd be pissed!

Its nice to see that someone else believes that.
Playing the political correctness game makes people over sensitive to minor things. I knew a kid that would freak out every time someone said any curse word. He seemed to think it was a personal attack when someone said it with him in the room. He had nightmares for weeks after watching Terminator 2 when he was 13. He was sheltered and never exposed to foul language or any kind of violence. His parents divorced when he 11 and they couldn't hold up his sheltered life very well so he was exposed to the real world and had a hard time adapting to it. Is that political correctness? "Protecting" you and your kids from what you think might be offensive? I think political correctness does more damage than good.
Just cause you don't understand what's going on
don't mean it don't make no sense
And just cause you don't like it,
don't mean it ain't no good
And let me tell you something;
Before you go taking a walk in my world
You better take a look at the real world
Cause this ain't no Mister Roger's Neighborhood
Can you say "feel like shit"?
Yea maybe sometimes I do feel like shit
I ain't happy 'bout it, but I'd rather feel
like shit than be full of shit!
And if I offended you, oh I'm sorry...
But maybe you need to be offended
But here's my apology and one more thing...fuck you!
Couldn't have said it any better myself.

While I generally appreciate the intentions behind political correctness, I do think there have been many instances where it's gotten completely out of hand. I'm not going to clog up this post with link to examples of outrageous lawsuits, news articles, etc. but if you wanted to find one, its not that hard. They're plenty out there. However, I will throw in an amusing anecdote.
I once stood by and watched a group of 3 or 4 people argue about what I wanted to be called. One stated that "Indian" was just fine, while another argued that "Native American" was the PC phrase and still another insisted that "First Nation" was the only non-offensive term.
Finally after several minutes of them debating, one of them finally actually turned to me and asked what I preferred.
I told them "Bloodthirsty Savage" and walked away.
Edit: Although I did once get mildly offended when an old lady asked me what "breed" of Indian I was.

Hehehe, nice one Indo. When I'm questioned about what I like to be called, mexican, hispanic, latino, spanish speaker, brown, etc. I reply " 'alex' works well"
Kulots kinda scolded me once when she kept saying she was asian and I insisted she was south pacific islander....I felt stupid when she said something like "you're going to tell me what I want to be called?"
