I had this sneaking suspicion that when Hillary Clinton succeded the nomination to Obama and immediately started, not only supporting him in statement because of party affiliation, but outright campaining for him, that something was up.

I wanted to know what you all thought about this.

A. Did the two strike a deal for her to have a high position on his staff.
B. Was it a leap of faith on her part that her actions might be rewarded by Obama.
C. Is she just "the right person for the job," and this was completely unintentional.

Good call. it would be a good move by him in that reguard, but being that he's already got the next four years in check, he'll have the nomination for 2012. I don't know why he would need to do that.

He's defiitely pulling in an eclectic group. They have different experiences, including party affiliations. I think it was a good move on his part. It keeps a potential enemy close at hand; it shows he can work with people he doesnt agree with or that doesn't agree with him; if she steps out of line, he can discipline her. This will show everyone he is the boss. If she performs well, it shows he can pick the right person for the job. (Another win)

SecState isn't much of an elevation in status or title vs. state senator.

I think she'll represent our country well and do a good job.

The genius of Hilary's appointment is that it puts her in the decision-making process of the executive branch w/o putting her directly in line for the presidency if something were to happen to Obama. The only problem (for Obama) is that he stabbed Bill Richardson in the back.

Now it has come out that Hilary may not get to take the position because of a provision in the Constitution.

According to an emolument clause in the Constitution, no lawmaker can be appointed to any civil position that was created or received a wage increase during the lawmaker's time in office.

President Bush ordered Cabinet salaries raised to $191,300 from $186,600 by executive order early this year, while Clinton was senator.

True; however, other persons have been in similar positions in our past. I think you will see her return the portion of the salary increase or ask for the salary to be reduced.

If I remember correctly, the president ordered and implemented the salary increases; if so, she didn't vote on the increase.

Either way, I think you'll see the money returned.

I think it was a well thoughout move on Obama's part. If something goes wrong, he's got her in a position to take some of the blame, but if everything works out, she'll be able to use it as a reference should she try to run in 2016.
