Beta? what is it

Hello, I'm New here. Can you explain what a " beta " download is , why i should take it or not. I'm on Vista. Thanks for your help.

"beta" refers to any software that has not yet been tested & debugged to the point where the programmer/company feels it is ready to be publicly released.

Folks that run beta software do so (usually) knowing that they may see bugs & unexpected behavior from the program, and these folks (usually) can deal with the occasional hiccup from their PC...

Having said that, and meaning no offense to you, if you need to ask what "beta" is, it is probably not a good idea for you to run beta software on your PC. Just stick with final release stuff. :)
