With the Phillies winning the World Series, I am struck once again at how many long-suffering teams/schools/persons have won a championship since 2000. Off the top of my head:

World Series
Red Sox - 86 years
Angels - never
White Sox - 88 years
Phillies - since 1980

City of Philadelphia - since 1983

Super Bowl
Patriots - never
Ravens - never
St. Louis Rams - never
Bill Cowher - first ever
Tony Dungy - first ever
Peyton Manning - first ever

Stanley Cup
Tampa Bay Lightning
Carolina Hurricanes
Anaheim Ducks
(OK, maybe not so long-suffering, but their first)

NCAA basketball
Syracuse
Maryland
Florida (twice)
Kansas - first in twenty years

Did I miss anyone?

How about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning their first super bowl?

Missed Tampa Bay.

How about Italy winning World Cup soccer in 2006, first time for them since 1982?

This thread should give Cubs' fans hope.

Red Wings?? Nice try.

OK, then how about the Celtics. 1st title in 22 years.

Here's another. I am not a big golf fan, but didn't Phil Mickelson always finish second to Tiger Woods and then finally won a tournament a few years ago?
