MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (TICKER) —For the second time this offseason, the Memphis Grizzlies went overseas to address their vacancy at the center position, according to a published report on Thursday.

The Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported that the Grizzlies signed 7-2 Iranian center Hamed Haddadi, just over a week after the NBA cleared all the immigration hurdles and received government approval.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, sources stated that he signed a multi-year deal equivalent to that of a mid-first-round draft pick.

After joining his countrymen at the Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League, Haddadi burst onto the scene when he became the only player to average a double-double (16.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.6 blocks) during the Beijing Olympics.

Earlier in the offseason, Memphis signed Spanish center Marc Gasol, brother of former Grizzlies star Pau Gasol. Haddadi will become the first Iranian to play in the NBA after spending the 2007-08 season playing for Saba Battery in the Iranian Super League.

Now, would it not be interesting, if this where to help relation with Iran?

I do hope that guy does well, you never know, it really could help.
