Fuck football, it's over. If anyone told me Boston and LA could meet in the NBA finals at the season opener, I'd have thought they were nuts....

Boston is hanging in there, winning a lot of games. Quite a reversal from their post-Bird seasons. LA seemed to open this year with the same team as last, meaning 1 round and out in the playoffs. However, they have been hanging tough and recently had the Number 1 NBA power ranking. The trade of Kwame Brown for Paul Gasol suddenly gives them a big boost. Is that enough to make them a contender?

:dunno:

It's a thread for basketball lovers to start specualtiing in! Some people have said the Boston connection between McHale and Ainge is what sent Garnett east. Now they are also saying Jerry West helped get the Lakers Gasol. Plus, they still have Andrew Bynum, he's just hurt at the moment. Any other blockbuster trade they made would have cost him, and Lamar Odom.

Let's not call either team a shoo in for the finals, by any means. There are plenty of other great teams that can and will have a say in things. However, I am not the only one saying this finals matchup is now very possible.

Once Garnett gets healthy and hits his stride the Celtics will be difficult to stop. I've seen almost no NBA action this year so I'm not really sure though.

Well, biggest deal of the mid-season was just made, Phoenix trades Marion for Shaq. Is Shaq done for, or does he still have a run or two left in him?

I hope Shaq sits on Kobe's chest the entire game when the Suns play the Lakers and the teams play 4 on 4.

suns vs lakers will be quite something in this years playoffs. Thats if they meet Im hoping. I have a feeling it will be one of these teams for the west in the finals as San Antonio likely wont make it to the finals this year.

An analysis of the 3 big recent western conference trades: http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/Kahn_Games/2008/02/19/Lakers_made_the_best_deal?MSNHPHMA

Essentially, Laker deal builds for the future, Suns and Mavs for now. I agree, Spurs won't be in finals this year. 4 teams with something to say, and only one, or perhaps none of these four will advance.

I would like the Celtics in the finals; I don't care who they would face.
