In this topsy turvy year, who knows how it will all end. Probably all the point spread underdogs will win in the BCS bowls.....

In the meantime, does anyone really believe Ohio State is the number 1 team in the country? Arguably, they are much weaker than last season, and they proved to be overrated then.

If they are allowed to be the number one seed, then they should play Hawaii, the only unbeaten left. Of course everyone knows neither is the best team, but records seem to count in determining who gets seeded where. Yeah, you say, Hawaii played a soft schedule. Look at OSU, they did too, mostly against a very overrated Big 10. Damned east coast bias. So, anyway, last year Boise state made a statement for the smaller schools in weak conferences in the Fiesta Bowl. Besides, what else does Hawaii have to do to get into the BCS championship, win every game by 100 points? C'mon, put them in the BCS or declare them and every other weak conference ineligible.

I posted about the OSU vs. Hawaii scenario in BOTH. That frees up the Rose Bowl for USC and LSU to duke it out. They were the preseason favorites, and this game would be for the "Real BCS championship". Actually, just fuck that and pair them in the BCS title game.

Another injustice was wrought on Missouri. They go from Number 1 to out of the BCS bowls with their loss to Oklahoma. Instead of going to the Rose Bowl, the east coast bias selects a weak Illinois team to go there.

Looks like it is time for a playoff, or cancel this year's bowls. Thoughts?

BCS rankings are fucked no matter how you look at it. This "Strength of schedule" talk is bullshit, and it was proven this year. Supposedly weak teams like Hawaii and Appalachian State put the hurt on big name teams. And how many top ten teams lost to unranked teams? There is no sure game anymore. The winner is undecided untill the end of the game.

Strength of schedule needs to be thrown out the window as for deciding who comes out #1.

Yes we get it, you don't like the Big 10 or any school not on the West Coast....

I think the title game should have been OSU and Georgia, they were 3 and 4 before the weekend.

I think the title game should have been OSU and Georgia, they were 3 and 4 before the weekend.
Please get your facts straight. I have proven the Big 10 is overrated. They haven't been the dominating force in football in nearly 50 years. Check the history of the Rose Bowl results and see how the results turned in favor of the west. From east domination to an abrupt west domination. I have also posted how the best football talent in the country is grown in California, Texas, and Florida. The south is heavy in young talent, and population demographics continue to change to the south and the west. Most of those players play near home in college. I have never said I disliked any other conference. However, east coast bias continues to this day.

As far as OSU vs. Georgia goes, it would have made sense to pair them up. They were 3 and 4 before last week when 1 and 2 lost. However the selection was clearly political.

Clearly, the way the system is set up now, if there was ever a chance for a team from a weak conference to get into the BCS championship game, it was this year. However, an OSU vs. Hawaii game would have been perceived as a farce. So, the BCS policy will forever prohibit a weak conference team from ever making it to the big game. Well, all the other teams in contention kept losing as the season progressed. Putting Hawaii in and justifying it that they earned their shot while everyone else failed was the last chance to legitimize the BCS over a playoff.

LSU was the preseason number 2. An OSU vs, Georgia game would have been perceived as weak. Getting LSU in there is an attempt to give a powerful pairing. Why wasn't OSU bypassed a well? Partially due to east coast bias.

No matter the results, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the underdogs sweep the BCS bowl games. It's been a crazy year. If ever there was a reason to get rid of the BCS and institute a playoff, it's now. Or, as I said in another thread, cancel all BCS games and have no champion. It isn't unprecedented to have a season in sports end without a winner. Tell me who won the World Series of Baseball in 1994. You can't, because a strike ended that season. Poor Montrel Expos, they might have taken it all....

a weak Illinois team.. humm.. They beat then #1 Ohio State and then #2 wisconsin.. While they are not a perceived powerhouse.. they should do ok against the much overrated USC.. I dont think they will beat USC tho.

Pac 10 went 66-55 for the season a .545 winning%
Big 10 went 79-53 for the season, a .598 winning%

So overrated.. compared to the big 12 or sec maybe!

LSU wouldn't have gone to the Rose Bowl.. the Rose Bowl is a Big 10- Pac 10 game.. for BCS eligable teams.

I agree Hawaii should have a shot at the National title for sure. And I hope they put a whooping on Georgia

I also agree that it was a huge injustice that Missouri didn't get in. Kansas had a good season.. but their strenth of schedule was like 100th out of 120, while missouri's was in the mid 30's i think.. and Missouri won head to head.

I vote playoff.. In the end, i think it would mean more $ for each school and TV and sponsers and all that hoopla..

meh, Big 10 is overrated, look who they played this year. Ohio State was # 1? Wisconsin was #2? want to buy the brooklyn bridge?

USC overrated? I think they are at least as good as last season where they just missed out on the BCS championship. They owned Michigan as they would have owned OSU.

Hell, Illinois will probably beat USC it's been that kind of a year. Simple fact is, the Big 10 doesn't have anywhere near the best prep players to draw from as it once did. Their time has come and gone. Maybe once the died in the wool, never will change, east coast voters die off and participants in the polls are spread out to reflect the true national demographics, the Big 10 will fade in the polls.

Got to disagree with you here. The Rose Bowl initially wanted to preserve the Big 10 vs. Pac 10 format, but was more or less forced to end that pact when:

A) Rose Bowl's turn to host the BCS chamoionship game.
B) When the BCS needed a slot for a BCS team and they wouldn't fit elsewhere.

Remember January 2005? USC was off playing in the BCS championship game vs. Oklahoma. Michigan played in the Rose Bowl against Texas. The Longhorns were BCS bowl eligible and overrode whoever came next behind the Trojans in the Pac-10. Obviously, Illinois got in this year due to east coast bias. Or the rules changed.

why is it cities that have two teams finds their fans at each other's throats? Yankees and Mets, Dodgers and Angels, Trojans and Bruins....I happen to like both UCLA and USC and my post season experiences are all the more enjoyable as a result....I'll be backing UCLA next NCAA basketball tournament as well as USC, they didn't do too bad last year....

You too can become a Trojan fan BDJ! I wasn't always like this. I grew up in a pro USC anti UCLA family. :bowrofl:

Why should The University of Ohio State go at all?
The Title Game is a joke.

Missouri is being punished for beating Kansas. Lose that game and then they don't play for the Conference and thus don't lose to Oklahoma, to drop out of BSC bowl contention.

It seems that when teams lose means more then to whom and by how much.
Just because the voters forget about games doesn't mean they shouldn't be thought about.

Simple question, It could apply to any crosstown rivalry. Why do you hate USC?

1) Because all true UCLA fans do.
2) Number 1 above and specific reasons. (List please).
3) Specific reasons, number 1 doesn't apply. (List please).
4) Other

I hate a total of two teams in all of sports, with good reason to me:

1) The New York Yankees (Specifically George Steinbrenner. The Jury is out on his devil spawned brats). He is nothing more than a 5 year old spoiled brat child trapped in an old millionaire's body. Every kid wants a magic wand, he fulfilled his dream. Once the Steinbrenner clan is out of the picture, I will probably start liking them again. Yes, I was once a Yankee Fan.

2) The Dallas Queerboys. They have always been an arrogant football franchise. What turned me off the most was when they dubbed themselves "America's Team". Sorry, but fans in Cleveland should root for the Browns. Seattle residents should support the Seahawks....you get the point. Tom Landry is an exception. That man was a total class act. Always emotionless on the field, I only saw him lose his cool once, and he had good reason. He got the shaft by a new Queerboy owner who fired him to save money.

What's funny is, a team came along that actually marketed themselves as "America's Team", and it was clever how they did it. Ted Turner put all the Atlanta Braves games on cable network and reached the whole nation. Only problem was, local teams would black out their home games. Turner is an odd fellow, but he corralled Jane Fonda (she was so hot in her day) and won The America's Cup yacht race. I still remember seeing him in drunken celebration on the news. Funny as all hell. Good man, Ted Turner.

Anyway, no team can win year in and year out. Dynasties come and go. I find it fun to support all the local teams. I go beyond what I am supposed to do and am a happier sports fan and person as a result.

By the way, I don't hate the Big 10. I just find them a good punching bag. Almost as fun as Booty is here.

Thanks to everyone that is reading and contributing.

...They have always been an arrogant football franchise...SUC again.

And I do love how, when UCLA brings a superior basketball team to the court & SUC can't come close - because they blew their sports program wad on the football team - all of a sudden, B-Ball doesn't count - "oh, we don't care about 'nigger ball'", says your common SUC punkass snob. whatever, fuckchisels. :usuck:

Thanks for replying! I love UCLA basketball. Too bad they couldn't get past Florida the last two years. Amazing thing is, John Wooden has enjoyed over 32 years of retirement now.

well, at least you don't hate USC for other reasons, such as all the times they knocked UCLA out of the RoseBowl. dink.

What irks me the most is OSU got into the championship game merely by being idle on the last weekend.

Maybe they should make all conferences have mandatory championship games or none at all.

Of course a playoff would solve the problems more than anything.

With no playoff to sort this season's mess I honestly think it would be best if they did it the old way ....let them all play the bowl games on New Year's Day and then vote the champion....better than the shit we got now IMO.

The new BCS standing are great for the college game because you have the teams that deserve to be higher in the rankings where they are needed to be.

Lets take this USC came to battle with Texas and look what Happened, Now if you would have taking the current BCS system and put that game together it would have never happened the game would have been Texas VS Florida In which that would have been a better game to watch !
