ubuntu 5.10 linux not loading

first ive never used it
i want to install it but every time i try it "hangs" on 'starting hotplug subsystem'
so first i googled and found lots of people have this situation but there doesnt seem to be en english answer avalible its all in gobbeldy gook or greek or something
so has anyone had a similar problem?

i have tryed putting in a seperate graphics card as some fourums say this version has an issue with intel onboard graphics cards
ive disabled the usb from cmos
then i tryed editing the boot command
When GRUB comes up, press e to edit the boot-line that normal would start e.g.

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-10-386 root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet splash

to

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-10-386 root=/dev/sda1 rw init=/bin/bash

something ive never done and i screwed it up so i reformatted and tryed again
still hangs on 'starting hotplug subsystem'
so then i tryed a diffent option when it came to the partition part (cant remember exactly what i did)
all of this does not work

has anyone ever tryed this?
has anyone got ubuntu working on a PC?
everything ive tryed doesnt work


im very keen to learn linux so i realy want this to work

You should download Ubuntu 6.10 because your mainbord could not be suported with this distribution's included kernel. If you have a new mainboard you should do it and try out if a new version will work for you. I'm also new to Linux but I learnt that if you configure it proper you will get stable and good system. The blue screen of death is the last shight you could expect when you use Linux. The proper configuration of a system is the thing that takes most of the time but it pays off. As I said try ubuntu 6.10 it should work for you. Sorry for my english it's not my mother tounge.
