You gotta make the change yourself. Nothing's gonna happen if you don't make it happen.

get out and look for a job. don't go looking for the best paying one, just try to find something you enjoy, that makes you feel better.

i never thought of that.... sometimes you get so busy with stuff, you cant see whats right infront of you.... i saw a nice job at a local store where my friends all work.... may give that a shot

i refused medication, although my doctor didnt reccomend them at this time.... i just dont wanna end up like my mam i guess, them anti depressants can mess you up :s

could you go on meds but just be reaaaally careful with monitoring it? I mean, you don't just wake up one day, all messed up, right? It's gotta be a slow slide. Maybe if you and your doc are really careful, you can keep on top of the meds and make sure it's not affecting you in a bad way?

don't be afraid to ask your buddies for help. if they are real friends, they'll be there for you through the bad times. especially with depression and everything else going on in your life right now you need a good support group.

Queso's right - getting a job will do wonders for picking up your self-esteem as well as give you something to distract you from your other challenges.

And don't be afraid of the meds - if this is something genetic, as you indicate, chances are what you would get from an MD today would be different than what messed with your mom...advances are made every day in the treatment of depression.

hang in there man, things will get better. :)

"...i have an underactive thyroid gland..."(

Seems like most of the rest of your statement all flows from this one. You're not interested in antidepressants, but are you taking anything for your thyroid?

If you arel looking for a drug-free way to overcome your depression, remember that your life is what you pay attention to every day. Sit down and make a list of everything that you have to be thankful for in your life. It will be difficult at first because you are completely focused on the bad things right now, but give yourself a full 30 minutes and force yourself to come up with 10 things that are going right in your life right now.

i take 100mg levothyroxine once a day for the underactive thyroid gland.

took 3 months of large amounts of blood from me to diagnose it, left me exhausted and fragile that did.

ok update on this, my life has literally turned around...

they found my medication was low for my thyroid, so upped that and im feeling so much better, it seems the depression was a "side effect" of low thyroid levels, i got a job running a little shop in town :) first few days have gone well :)

its all thanks to a special girl to me, and thats our very own maggie, she has bullied me up to fighting back and getting this far. she is the most awesome girl in my life right now, and im not letting her go :)

thanks for everyones advice, i appreciate the straight talking approach, rather then the aww poor monty stuff :) you have all helped me more then you will ever know.

im even gonna take my first trip abroad this year, because i can now start thinking about affording it :) life is wonderful now, and i think its gonna be pretty damn good in the future too :D

i know it's a little late for my advice, but try and find a church you like, if that's your cup of tea. If not for the religion, go for the set of values and the people. You can talk to a church pastor about anything, and (99.99% of the time) he'll give you hi honest, no-shit opinion on what you should do. It helped me.

I understand where you're coming from, I've been pretty low myself, for what it's worth, I think you might want to change your environment if at all possible, may be a lot of bad memories hanging around you at your current location.

other than that, get mad, mad as hell, kick your own ass to motivate your self. It sounds a little retarded but when my life went to shit I got in a real bad spot, but then I looked at it as a fight in a way, life was trying to beat me down, and I refused to let that happen, I fought back, and I'm better off now because of it.

I never knew about this thread, very interesting and cool news for me when I've been on WR since beginning of this year.
I've been reading that Mags and Monty have been together, but I've never figured out they first connected through WR.

I would never found it if I haven't seen THIS (http://forums.webrats.com/thread134628-1.html) thread.

SMonty30, just saw this thread. My daughter had the same problem with her thyroid which blew up pretty large and became very noticible which is how she ended up be diagnosed with it. She's been on medication for a couple years now. Glad you finally got diagnosed properly and things are turning around for you. I was wonderinbg why I haven't seen you over in BOTH. Take care of yourself!!!!

you do realize this thread was started last year, right?

that being said, Cinn and I met indirectly because of a message board. We happened to be on the same local message board, and one of the guys planned a party, and everyone was invited. So of course I go, because that's how I roll. That's the night we met, almost 3 years ago.
